About this Cook
I'm a born-again Christian girl with a young family in sunny Western Australia. I have really only become interested in cooking and learning more about cooking in the last year or so, since previously living with a housemate who didn't have a clue how to cook -- so it was all up to me! Other thank cooking I enjoy spending time with friends, church and my family. I also enjoy decorating my home as much as cooking!
My favorite things to cook
I really like making sweets and treats, though I would like to learn a lot more quick, sort of 'on the run' meals, as we are often really pressed for time to eat on weeknights. And I need to get into more healthy eating aswell to shed some kilos!
My favorite family cooking traditions
We don't really have any family cooking traditions yet... but my parents have a tradition each Christmas that all of the kids have to come home and stir the christmas pudding mixture before Dad cooks it... it's meant to 'add something' to the pudding ;)
My cooking triumphs
The very first recipe I ever made from was also the hardest thing I've ever made. It was called the Chocolate Crackle Christmas Tree and was a very time-consuming (as in 3 days!) thing to make. It was well-worth it in the end, especially after I added small candles and lit it all up.. it looked good enough to eat - and we did! Everyone took photos of it aswell, so I was really proud!
My cooking tragedies
Making my own gravy... my husband still laughs at me about it, and my son said it was the worst gravy ever in the whole world. You'd think it'd be something no one would be able to mess up, but mess it up I did!

Gramma Bertha's Banana Cake
Not having ever liked bananas, I loved this cake. Like the other reviewers, I found it moist and delicious. I made no changes to the recipe itself, but added a small sprinkling of cinnamon. I didn't find the sugar too much at all. This is a very good recipe, worth keeping.

Serbian Ground Beef, Veggie, and Potato Bake
My family and I were disappointed with this recipe. I have to say, from the others reviews I really thought it would be great, and I followed peoples sugestions, etc but it just tasted like a bland shephards pie. We couldn't taste the spices at all which was a shame. I'm giving this 3 stars because it was still a hearty meal, but just not very exciting in my standards. I definitely recommend adding cheese to this if you do make it though... it's the only way my 5-yr-old son would eat it!

All American Apple Pie
My 5-yr-old son helped me to make this pie on the weekend. We did enjoy it, however it's not the best I've ever tasted. It seemed quite regular to me. I had the same problem as a few of the other reviewers with the topping being a big sloppy mess, even after adding more flour + sugar to try and "crumble" it. In the end I had no choice but to spread the mixture across the top and bake it that way, which was fine but not really what was expected. I increased the cinnamon and also added a small amount of brown sugar to the filling, which was lovely. I do think this is just a nice pie, but not right up there with my favourites, in my taste.
