Look no further for a reliable and delicious apple pie recipe -- THIS IS IT!! The first time I followed the instructions exactly...didn't get to taste it myself because it was used for barter trade but it looked fabulous! I soon found an excuse to make it again. I added 1/2 tsp cinnamon and 2 tsp lemon juice to the sauce. I recommend a modified assembly as follows. Instead of pouring all the sauce through gaps in the lattice top after it's fully assembled, put about 90 percent of the sliced apples into the bottom crust, pour *most* of the sauce over the apples (reserve at least 1/4 cup sauce), then add a final layer of plain apples. That way the apples aren't goopy when you weave the lattice. Use dough scraps to reinforce the raised crimped edge and drizzle reserved sauce over the top. Bake the pie on a pizza stone if you have one (preheat pizza stone at least 30 minutes). That helps cook the bottom crust. It came out looking glorious but my photo didn't match the requirements of this website. Too bad because it looked glorious. When I shared the pie with my women's group it was a big hit. This is the only recipe for apple pie I'll ever use again. Thank you, Grandma Ople!!
