I'm a 20-something who's starting to get into cooking for two, as I've recently moved in with my boyfriend of about two years. I was raised in a very Italian neighborhood of Michigan, and still love the cuisine - and the bread and cheese!
My favorite things to cook
Italian fare (naturally). Chicken - any way I possibly can! Desserts: cakes, cookies, bars, etc.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My dad is an amazing cook! My favorites are his slow-simmered round steak with tomato sauce and shepherd's pie. However, my maternal grandmother is the queen of the kitchen in our family. Her recipes for spaghetti sauce and banana bread are two things that I couldn't possibly live without.
My cooking triumphs
One Christmas I asked my parents for a KitchenAid Artisan mixer... and squealed like a 6-year-old when I opened it. But actually in the kitchen, the first meal I cooked when my boyfriend and I moved into our apartment was barbecued country-style ribs in the pressure cooker, with mashed potatoes, carrots and homemade rolls. It seems simple enough, but it was the first time I've actually put together a whole meal, not to mention the first time I'd used the pressure cooker. I was so proud of myself!
My cooking tragedies
I've had several, but the worst one yet was using a tablespoon instead of a teaspoon to measure out baking powder into cake. Blech.
