My husband is gone for the next 2 weeks for training. That leaves me home with DS1 and DS2. Knowing how they are and DH is not only NOT picky he loves my cooking; I steeled
myself and planned in advance picking out recipes I thought my boys would at least tolerate. I also work full time so I prepped as much as I could in advance (which has been a lifesaver) So my meal plan versus what really happened.
Monday- Nacho tacos. Both boys love some nachos and taco so as sure fire winner. NOT!
I ate dinner while the boys complained incessantly. DS1 took his obligatory “no thank you bite”. DS2 literally pushed the plate across the table crossed his arms and pouted.
Tuesday- baked chicken nuggets, which I didn’t make and simply reheated tacos and experienced some serious déjà vu.
Wednesday- after eating the remaining tacos for lunch, I made the always kid friendly hot dogs, mac and cheese (only the boxed kind please) and corn. Needless to say my
kids ate their weight not knowing when they would get their next palatable meal.
Sadly Thursday is always leftover night. Which all that was leftover were the boxed mac and cheese, hot dogs and corn. At least they got dinner 2 nights in a row.
Friday- Pizza bread! Pizza bread! Pizza bread! DS1 was delighted. DS2 not so much…it didn’t look like pizza and he is far too clever to be fooled by cheap tricks.
I hope and pray that the meals I have chosen for the remainder of the time Josh is away will be a bit more acceptable to their taste. Me, being cynical and a bit jaded,
has decided WHATEVER I’ll do what I want!
Of coursed AR menu planner is wonderful.
I love the shopping list so I had already planned shopped and prepped most of the ingredients for these 2 weeks.
Pixley on a stick- one of DS1’s faves- ranch dressing, sugar and chicken! What’s not to love?
Purely for Mommy is Firehouse Subs Tuesday 2 kid can eat free with 1 adult purchase.
Taco soup- which oddly enough is one of DS1’s faves as well
Baked pork chops, well at least my kids won’t starve for part of the week.
That will about cover the rest of the time Josh is gone.
Finding recipes that are healthy, balanced that my kids will eat has led to much fustration and tears on my part. I can't think of a valid reason to continue to put forth
all the effort to listen to whining, pouting and all around dissatisfation that follows. Maybe in the years to follow my kids will appreciate my cooking but right now I hope they will understand that that an empty tummy isn't worth the satisfaction of rebellion.
