I love to cook for my family including my two grown children and the three most beautiful grandchildren on the planet! I work for our state's health department and love to travel!
My favorite things to cook
Comfort foods are my favorite with a leaning toward southern food. I love good, homemade food. I love to bake cakes and cookies of all kinds.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My dad taught me to cook and to this day, I love getting in the kitchen with him to create yummy food for our family and friends. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because it's centered around food and family. We love oyster dressing which is my father's signature dish. Mine is the brined turkey!
My cooking triumphs
When I was a child, a neighbor lady baked the most wonderful cinnamon rolls in the world. As an adult, I made it a priority to learn how to do that. Unfortunately, the cinnamon rolls I've learend to bake are tender, buttery, full of cinnamon and slathered with vanilla icing. I say unfortunately because now they have to be a rare indulgence and I don't bake them as often as I once did.
My cooking tragedies
I once decided to bake a pink cake for my parents' wedding anniversary. Not wanting to blend the solid shortening into the batter, I decided to melt it first. I poured it into the batter while still hot and needless to say... the "pink cake disaster" went down in the lore of our family. It was about 1/2" high and weighed a ton. I believe it may still be sitting, peatrified, in a landfill somewhere... I was 12 at the time.
