Snowballs II

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2006
I have made this cookie many ways. I always come back to this variation as I think it is the nicest looking. I keep my cookies well chilled prior to baking. I also bake these at 325 degrees for 20 mins. Now when making the balls for the cookies I incorporate the whole familys help. With Christmas such a busy time you can relax with these as they are simple ( balls a little time consuming) taste great and go over well. Thanx for a nice recipe! I almost always add 2 tablespoons of vanilla and a half of almond or rum flavoring.Sounds like alot of flavoring but taste yummy!

Stained Glass Candy II

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2006
One messy recipe if you forget to cool it down prior to rolling into logs. May I suggest that you not forget that step as I did. I placed my finished logs into the freezer to cool before cutting. they cut beautifully and looked beautiful as well. My daughter thanks you for this recipe as it is one of her favorites. She is now using it with her children. An easy recipe to use and inexpensive too. Makes great gifts and thankyous for teachers etc.

Strawberry Pie II

Reviewed: Jun. 28, 2005
Yummy in my tummy and a few other tummies too. This is a great pie cool and tasty. I made this with a ghram crust and did cut the sugar as my strawberries were plenty sweet. I quartered my berries and added an additional cup to the uncooked berries. I have had only one other strawberry pie that I felt was worth eating. It had a delicate crust with a filling very similar to this one. I have made other pies that have been well received but for myself most were just average strawberry pies. I plan to try this recipe with fresh raspberries too. I and my daughter decorate cakes. When I read another posters post, I decided to make the cooked portion of the pie with my own ratio of ingredients and came up with a less sweet filling. Not as tart as apricot or raspberry but a great cake filling for my strawberry lovers. Thank you for a great idea! Thanxs Marge for a great recipe. This will be added to my personal recipe book. Give this one a try. It's worth trying!

Amish Macaroni Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 28, 2005
It is not often you find a flavor combination that appeals to almost everyone. This recipe does indeed. I reduced my sugar to 2 T. I also used nonfat mayo (Just-2Good 3 cups) and I used 1 cup Miracle Whip. I doubled the recipe. I omitted the salt but I heavily salted my noodles as is my practice. I did not use the celery seed as I have found it to be a little overpowering for my taste as a rule. The chopped celery is a must tho, unless you just happen to hate celery. I as another poster found that I olny needed half the dressing mix and was thankful I hadn't poured it on all at once. I will add this recipe to my book of favorite recipes. The next time I make this I am going to add some small cubes of cheese as I think it will taste great with all the flavors. I may also try adding in some breast of chicken, tuna, or some salmon for a main-meal salad. Thank you Connie for a great recipe. Don't be shy, give this one a try.

Pork Chops with Blue Cheese Gravy

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2005
I came across this recipe quite by accident. Delicious, moist, I mean almost to die for. It is simple and quick to prepare. I always try to make a recipe exactly as stated first so I can fairly judge it. I tried this with out added bluecheese. It is mild and delicious. Even my non bluecheese eaters loved the gravy. For those of us who like a bit more bluecheese I added more and it also was excellent. I love gravies made with whipping cream. I however can not afford the calories on a regular basis as they tend to go to my hips. The next time I make this I will make the gravie with nonfat half-n-half, nonfat canned milk, or nonfat milk. When I use nonfat milk in place of whipping cream or half-n-half I add 1 tablespoon of cornstarch for thickening per cup of liqued. I will also use olive-oil in place of butter. I like some of the other reviewers sauteed mushrooms and served them on the side. I will be making this again soon with a nice cut of steak. I know it will be a hit too! Thanxs Toni for an excellent recipe. It is a keeper for sure and I will use it again and again. This recipe is well worth trying!

Deep South Fried Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2005
This is a recipe that stands the test of time for my family too. We have also placed the chicken in the oven once it has been browned. The reason for this is the quanity we prepare at one time. We have a large extended family. The one huge difference is the reduction and then increase in heat. The chicken is moist, pleasing to the eye and easy to prepare and clean-up after. If you like a little extra flavor boost add a little paprika and garlic powder. Yum,Yum! Thank-you Marilyn for an awsome recipe.

Shrimp Fettuccine Alfredo

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2005
This is a great recipe! I made mine with chicken browned off in the garlic butter. I wish I had used a better grade of cheese as I think it would have made a huge difference in flavor. I added fresh ground pepper and reduced the salt a bit. I also added extra cheese and did thicken the sauce a bit with cornstarch. Once I put the dish together however I wished I had not thickened my sauce. I too made extra sauce. I made enough for two pounds of fettuccine. This recipe was well liked. I will use it again. Thankyou Tiffany for a great versatile recipe.

Mouth-Watering Stuffed Mushrooms

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2005
This was the last of three recipes I tried. I had never eaten nor made a stuffed mushroom so I had to have three five star recipes of course. All three recipes were just wonderful. I thought that this one might have too much mushroom and cheese as the stems were added back and it was creamcheese with no bread crumbs but I was wrong. I made these according to the recipe and they were just great. You can be proud to serve these and they are super fast and easy to make! Thanx!

Dinah's Stuffed Mushrooms

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2005
I like several other reviewers reduced my butter by half. I kept the clam juice and poured it in to my melted butter. I also added red and yellow bellpepper and cayenne pepper for a little extra punch. Compliments all around everyone loved them and I had no leftovers. I could have made more and they too would have been consumed. Then again I did have 40 guests. Thanx fo a great easy to follow, quick yummy recipe. I will use it again! 1

Crab and Lobster Stuffed Mushrooms

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2005
This was my first attempt at making stuffed, baked mushrooms. It took me forever to get them into the oven but then I picked my own crab. I really had no idea as to what the filling should be like. I thought it needed a little kick so I added cayenne pepper. I then decided that tho they seemed a little dry that with tons of cheese and butter there was no way they could be. They were not dry, they were great. Everyone really liked them. I did not look over the review first but will in the future. I hope to try this recipe again soon but with the sauce one of the reviewers put over theirs. It sounds yummy!

Ziti with Italian Sausage

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2004
This is a great base recipe. I enjoy a recipe one can work with. I as many others added extra sauce and cheese. I decreased the salt to a scant half teaspoon and added hotsauce and pepper. I also added a can of Italian tomatoes plus a bit more Italian seasoning. My family tends to like a little less meat so I hope to try this with no meat and with half the meat. I know it will turn out yummy. One other thing, this really does make a ton of food. You will have plenty to share!!!

Mary's Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2004
I bake often and I was pleased to find this easy to use recipe. I did refrigerate my dough overnight and had no problems. This is a tasty easy to use and forgiving dough. I had five grandchildren helping with each step. I did add extra flavoring tho I doubt it was needed. I will add this recipe to my personal collection. P.S. This was a child friendly recipe with just a wee bit of adult help. The wee bit would of course depend on age too.
