Strawberries and Wine

It might be good with a different white wine, but vermouth was all I had on hand, and it added a slight bitter taste to the strawberries on top of the floral drama associated with vermouth. Had it been a fresh bottle, it might have been better. I'll try it again, but with a freshly opened bottle of chardonnay next time.

One Bowl Chocolate Cake III

When I added the boiling water, it turned the batter to a watery liquid. It didn't regain its consistency in the oven. I was using spring form pans, and it leaked all over my oven too. Since the recipe is otherwise very straightforward, I can't imagine trying it again.

Vegetable Dip

The curry is too strong, horseradish too sharp, and the garlic too pervasive. Cut these ingredients in half and definitely add sugar.

Yeast Doughnuts

Gotta bring this one down a notch. I've made them twice, and they came out dense and dry. I think the yeast may be mixed in wrong. I would try activating it with the sugar next time, and maybe using half the egg.

Molasses Raisin Muffins

They are decent muffins. I would probably make them again. I would add a half cup of brown sugar or at least double the molassas and raisins. Instead of the yogurt, I used half sour cream and half evap milk. Also, I added 2t. vital gluten.

Avocado Soup with Chicken and Lime

I made this recipe just as directed. It was delicious. Especially right off the fire. Spicy for the kids but a unique alternative recipe for grown folks. Sure you could thicken it if you want. To do so, I would use a butter/flour roux heated but unbrowned as my first guess. ¡Muy sabrosa!

Cranberry Applesauce Muffins

Ok, but I followed the other reviewers advice and added more oil and substituted half wheat flour and brown sugar. I also used dehydrated cranberries so I added a tad bit of water. However, the sugar needed to be about double (would be my guess) as it was very a little on the bland and boring side. Would make again w/ the extra sugar.

Long Johns

I was looking for the long johns with the cream filling. However, I figured I'd try these and attempt to squirt some stuffings into it. Mine came out a little too dense for that, but as far as doughnuts go, they were good, especially with chocolate frosting. They could stand to have been wider to keep from rolling to the heavy side in the oil.

Easy Sugar Cookies

Cook until they just *start* to brown (almost white) and they will melt in your mouth. I over browned some of mine maybe 1-2 minutes and the bottom was burnt.

Turkey Tetrazzini

I halved the noodles and added green peas instead of the pimentos. It was good enough for my kids to eat so I gave it four, however for me it is more a three star recipe. That said, I would definatly dice the turkey next time. It was much too bulky sliced.

Mama Corleone's Sausage and Peppers

I used hot italian sausage. It was still good. However, I would still use a few red pepper flakes. Also, the volume of finished product calls for a very large skillet or even a wok.

German Chocolate Cake III

Drop dead delicious. I helped my 10 year old girl make this and we made very few substitutions. We soured some milk with vinigar for the butter milk, used all-purpose flour and semi-sweet chocolate with corn syrup. It still came out great. Very good recipe.

Homemade Vanilla Pudding

Nice flavor. It came out a little "gloppy" though. I could see wisking an egg yolk into the cold milk and stirring constantly then cutting back on the corn starch. Maybe that would help with the consistancy.

McCormick's Delicious Deviled Eggs

I wasn't too fond of these. I used a Lawry's seasoned salt and maybe it is significantly saltier than McCormick's however, that wasn't the only issue. I prefer some stuff in the mixture, like onlon and pickled relish. If this is your thing, though, it could be good. I'll skip the recipe next time.
