Almond Bars

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2012
I have made these for years and they are still a favorite. The taste is very close to Dutch Banket which is a flaky pastry filled with almond paste. My Dutch father loves these and they are so much easier to make than Banket!

Awesome Sausage, Apple and Cranberry Stuffing

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2012
This really is the best stuffing ever! I have been making this recipe every Thanksgiving for years and everyone loves it. I tweak it a little to suit our tastes but keep the basic recipe the same. We prefer more tart and less sweet apples so I use what we have on hand usually Macintosh or Jonathan. If there are liver-phobes coming to dinner I sub chopped pecans. Everything else I leave as written. However, when pinched for time I use 2 packages of Stove Top Cornbread Stuffing in place of the bread and it is delicious! No turkey stock? Don't let that stop you, just sub chicken stock. You really need to give this recipe a try. I think it will become your traditional stuffing recipe just like it has ours. Now, I'm hungry for Thanksgiving!

Braunschweiger and Nut Ball

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2013
I haven't made this in years. Thanks for the reminder! I used to make it every year for the holidays because my father loved it so much. I use soft cream cheese with chives and onions and only 1 tsp Worcestershire. I also add 1 TBS dry minced onion & 1/4 tsp garlic powder. I roll mine in chopped pecans and serve with wheat crackers. It also freezes well. Oh boy, now I'm really craving this!

Homestyle Turkey, the Michigander Way

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2012
Sometimes simple is best and this is a perfect example! My family loves this recipe and it is a must every Thanksgiving. Moist, tasty, and very easy! For a nice taste contrast, serve with the Awesome Sausage, Apple and Cranberry Stuffing from this site.

Scalloped Corn

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2011
I have been making this recipe for years and everytime I take it somewhere the recipe is requested. It is very good as written but sometimes I like to make the Cheesy Scalloped Corn version. Simply stir in 1 cup of shredded Cheddar just before pouring into prepared dish and then top with other cup of shredded Cheddar. Increase baking time to 45 minutes. Good comfort food!

Calico Bean Casserole

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2012
I've made this main dish for years. It makes an excellent "dish to pass" but be prepared because everyone will ask for the recipe. You can truly use any beans you like as long as you use some pork and beans. My original recipe came from my mother many, many years ago and used all pork and beans. I like to bake up a batch of Boston Brown Bread to serve on the side. Also works well in a slow cooker.

Creamy Vanilla Frozen Yogurt

Reviewed: Jul. 3, 2012
So simple and so good! Took the advice from previous reviewers and increased the vanilla to 1 tsp. Also added a shot (2 oz) to prevent it from freezing hard. Works like a charm! We tried both Bailey's and Buttershots. The Buttershots was an amazing flavor addition! We served it topped with fresh sliced peaches and blueberries. We have tried 3 different vanilla frozen yogurt recipes this summer and this is the one we will make again. Next time we plan to try vanilla vodka.

Baked Tilapia in Garlic and Olive Oil

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2005
This is very good and my first experience with Tilapia. Since it is a Mediterranean fish, the garlic and olive oil honors the dish. I did not marinate due to late night dinner and it was still very good. I used minced garlic and dehydrated minced onion which made little crunchy yummies. I also sprinkled on some paprika because I like the way it makes baked/broiled fish taste/look. Will add this to my fish recipe repertoire. (WW=5pt.)
