Caramel-Filled Chocolate Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2008
These had a great taste, but the white chocolate topping never set completely, so the cookies didn't travel well. The tops were smudged and messy when I arrived at the party I took them to. Maybe a little time in the fridge would have helped? Otherwise, just take care to single-layer.

Zucchini Egg Bake

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2008
With all the fresh herbs, I expected this to have a lot of great flavor, but I was disappointed. It's just another so-so breakfast casserole.

Peanut Butter Cup Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2007
A great cookie! I didn't have a mini muffin pan, so I rolled the dough into balls and just baked them on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. I also rolled the balls in white sugar before baking. If you're packing these to take somewhere, you might want to stick them in the fridge overnight first ... the peanut butter cups don't firm up enough for packing if you just leave them out.

Molasses Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2007
A really yummy cookie! 7 minutes was long enough for baking time. I also used parchment paper on my cookie sheets, which kept the bottoms looking nice. Thanks for sharing!

Get a Husband Brunswick Stew

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2007
This is pretty good. The yield sounded enormous to me, so I cut everything by a third, and that was plenty for me and my husband for more than two meals. I used just the pork and left out the other meats, since that's what I had on hand. The creamed corn seemed a little strange to me ... next time I'd use frozen. I probably also didn't sautee the celery long enough. It was still slightly crunchy in the finished stew, which was a little weird for Brunswick stew. Anyway, the title of the recipe has some merit -- my husband liked this a lot more than I did. I made some southern-style cornbread as a sidedish, and that was a nice touch.

Seven Layer Dip II

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2007
Wow! What a wonderful recipe. The dish was scraped clean at the party I took it to. The can of refried beans that I used happened to be the spicy kind, and that added some great kick. Also, the recipe doesn't mention it, but you should seed the tomatoes so that things don't get too runny.

Banana Crumb Muffins

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2007
These were perfect! They made a dozen regular-sized muffins, and for me they took about 3-4 extra minutes of bake time before a toothpick came out clean. The crumb topping really is wonderful. Thanks for sharing!

Lisa's Adobo

Reviewed: Mar. 28, 2007
The chicken was tender and had great flavor. It seemed to me that the sauce should have been thicker, but this was the first time that I'd had adobo. My husband, who grew up in the Philippines, confessed that it wasn't quite like what he was used to. Of course, the recipe does say that it's Americanized, so that's understandable.

Dark Chocolate Cake I

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2007
This turned out very well. I followed the recipe exactly and for a frosting used the topping/frosting that goes with the Mint Chocolate Cake recipe by Virginia Horst. Everyone at work gave it rave reviews!

This was a big success with both my husband and brother. I followed the recipe exactly, except left out the hominy.

Homestyle Turkey, the Michigander Way

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2007
I am so relieved. My first turkey was a success. :) I followed this recipe exactly, except I used freshly chopped parsley and onion in place of dried. The turkey wasn't pretty when it was done -- it was so moist, it fell apart in the oven. Maybe it would have stayed in one piece if I hadn't cooked it quite as long. I did a full five hours for my fairly small bird. Just wanted to be sure that it was finished, since I don't have a meat thermometer.

Lemon Pudding Cake I

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2007
I followed the recipe exactly, and the results were just mediocre. Both my husband and brother agreed that the recipe isn't a keeper -- they'd rather have pudding from a box next time, given the choice.

Chocolate Crinkles II

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2006
This is an absolutely fabulous recipe. I followed the advice of others and put the dough in the freezer for about an hour instead of waiting on the fridge. Rolling the dough is a sticky job -- I washed my hands after about every half dozen, and that made rolling easier. I also reused the same two pieces of parchment paper for the whole recipe, and that caused no problems. This one's going on my "favorites" list.

Carrot Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2005
This was my first-ever carrot cake & my first-ever cake from scratch -- so I was incredibly happy when it turned out really well! I made it for my husband's birthday, and everyone had great things to say about it. I was doubtful about really being able to frost the cake while it was still warm, but I was pressed for time & so tried it. There were no problems. (Whew!) In fact, I would say that the frosting was the best part about this cake. It was a great consistency and spread very easily, and the flavor was wonderful. I would definitely use the same frosting again, while I might look around for a carrot cake that was a little healthier for next time.
