Braised Pork Chops

Reviewed: Apr. 2, 2008
I had my doubts about cooking pork chops for 45-60 minutes, but I thought I'd still give them a try. Though I followed the recipe to a tee, I have to say that these were dry and hard to chew.

Hot and Sour Soup (Suan La Tang)--Southern China Style

Reviewed: May 7, 2010
Followed recipe almost to the "t". Used the liquid from the wood ears in lieu of the water. Added 1 more tablespoon rice vinegar and added white crab and enoki mushrooms, plus some shrimp at the very end. This was delicious and will make this instead of going to the restaurant to order it. Thank you Tao.

Country Fried Steak and Milk Gravy

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2010
I have lived in the south all of my life (50+ years) and have never eaten, much less cooked country fried steak. I must admit that it was pretty dang tasty! The menfolk loved it. Prepared the recipe exactly as written. Thank you.

Merritt's Butternut Squash Gratin

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2008
I have not made this recipe, though, I know that without a doubt it would be scrumptious!!! Based on the last reviewer's critique, I am on the same page as she/he is. Yes, of course, everything tastes GREAT with lots of cheese, fresh herbs, and even bacon - how can you go wrong with these ingredients? I'm absolutely certain that this recipe is a veritable crowd-pleaser, but like the last reviewer, I simply can't afford to spend $20-$30 on a single recipe anymore - even for the holidays. When I need to make a dinner that will thrill all of my friends whether they be omnivores, carnivores, vegetarians, vegans, etc., I always start with ALLRECIPES. Most of these recipes are really quite simplistic and very good, but some can be rather pricey. I'm suggesting, in this rather depressed economy, that we start to submit recipes that are back to the basics, that are affordable with a minimal amount of $$ spent.

I haven't made this, but have to say that this is too cute! Love the creativeness. Good job, Sue!

Baked Mushroom Rice

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2010
I followed the suggestions from the last 2 reviewers and it definitely would benefit from marjoram, more mushrooms, and more garlic and even some parmesan. Everyone ate it, but I didn't hear anyone say, "Oh, this is good". I think mediocre at best.

Oven-Fried Catfish

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2008
Flavorful, but not particularly awesome or good for company. Recipe should mention to flip the fish so that each side is crispy. Calories were right for those of us who are watching our weight. Would I make it again? Maybe, though doubtful, but if I did, it would be with major modifications. Thank you for the opportunity to try it. I might also add that we had .85 lbs of fish for the two of us. We adjusted the recipe for the breading in half. We still had about 1/4 lb of cooked fish for leftovers. My husband says he'll eat it for leftovers, but that remains to be seen.
