Not Your Momma's Vanilla Extract

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2014
Found a wonderful deal on bulk vanilla beans and had to make my own extract. It's been 3 months and the extract has been used in everything from baked goods to vanilla milkshakes. Deep rich flavor and a delicious aroma even after baking. Will never go back to the store-bought stuff if I can help it.

Neat Sloppy Joes

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2012
Only changes I made was to skip the brown sugar and added a couple squirts of bbq sauce. I also put the veggies through the food processor. Easy to make excellent flavor. Tastes like the sloppy joes my grandma used to whip together.

Rempel Family Meatloaf

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2012
I only gave this 4 stars because I did find it a little too salty. Next time I think I will up the amount of ground beef to two lbs or either use low sodium ritz. But other than that it was nice and moist with good flavor.Very close to my mother's meatloaf but she never added the cheese.

Swiss Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2010
Followed this recipe as is the first time I made it and it was good. Second time I browned the chicken in olive oil. After removing the chicken I sauteed mushrooms and sliced onions spread this over the chicken before adding the swiss cheese. I deglazed the pan with 1/3 cup cooking sherry then blended in the soup and some mrs.dash seasoning. I also cut the crumbs and butter in half. There were no leftovers and hubby now requests it once a week.

No Bake Peanut Butter Pie

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2010
Very easy to make and it is oh so rich. We like it in a chocolate crust with choc syrup drizzled on top and an extra dollop of whipped cream to cut the richness.

Potato Skillet

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2009
My family has made this for as long as I can remember. We have added onions, green peppers, ham, sausage, basically whatever was in the fridge makes it's way into the skillet. Easy to make delicious comfort food.

Mom's Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 6, 2008
Yummy! Only changes I made were to pare the rind off the zucchini, it was a big one. And added some fresh blueberries that needed to be used up. Easy to make with excellent flavor. Will use this recipe from now on.

Connie's Zucchini "Crab" Cakes

Reviewed: Aug. 6, 2008
Very good recipe. My hubby loved them, said he didn't even realize they were made out of zucchini. I did drain the grated zucchini in a colander for 1 hour then squeezed the remaining juice out before using. The result still was alittle goopy but fried up just fine.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Pudding Cookies

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2008
Only 3 stars because of my mistake. DO NOT use sugar free pudding mix in this. Cookies turned out really nice looking but you definitely taste the artificial sweetener from the pudding in them. Will make again with the correct ingredients and update my review.

Chantal's New York Cheesecake

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2008
This was pretty easy to make. It did not crack and was picture perfect. But I found something lacking in the taste, hence only four stars. It was nicely smooth and creamy but definitely missing something. Maybe some lemon juice????

Dark Rye Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2007
I added slightly more water, about 1/3 cup more. And used butter instead of the vegetable oil( was all out of the oil) but it tasted great. Made a nice big freeform loaf. Not to light but not really overly dense either. Will make again. Thanks

My older brother would make these when he got stuck babysitting me. Now my kids love them. I like to roll them in cinnamon sugar or dip them in warmed up canned frosting. Taste best when still warm. Yummy!!
