I am a stay at home mom of a daughter in college, a son just beginning his junior year of high school and a beautiful 2 year old granddaughter who allows me to get "right" everything I think I did wrong ;-) with my kids.
Every Monday evening I am the primary cook/ "sous" chef for a local recovery ministry in Xenia, Ohio. We serve 70-100 people each week and I do it all on a budget of $100 a week. The sheer joy of being able to adapt family favorite recipes and others to feed such a large group and have it taste amazing is such a great reward.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My dad is notorious for being able to pull together an entire meal with odd ingredients from the pantry. I cannot tell you how often my family stares at the refrigerator and pantry and say "there's nothing to eat", 30 minutes later I can be serving up a full meal that would make daddy proud.
My cooking triumphs
My dear husband loves to brag about how I was able to serve dinner everyday for 90 days without a repeat, saving money, and have it taste better than anything we could eat out. I really need to do that again.
My cooking tragedies
Baking...let me say I hate baking. The only thing that I can really do well is boxed brownies and chocolate chip cookies. I recently tried to bake cupcake from scratch for my grandaughter's birthday and failed miserably. They were hard as rocks!
