About this Cook
After bouncing around several careers after college, I've finally settled in as an assistant professor at the local junior college. My husband and I recently adopted a son from foster care, and we are both enjoying the joys of parenthood--including all those sports and lessons!
My favorite things to cook
Desserts! At potlucks, I'm always asked to bring the sweets.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We are born and bred Southerners. As a result, I usually don't think it's a full meal unless it includes some kind of gravy and at least 2 vegetables.
My cooking triumphs
My father-in-law gave me the accolade for the "best pecan pie ever" one Thanksgiving. The secret--I ran out of bourbon, so I used Crown Royal instead. My husband says it was also the most expensive pecan pie ever.
My cooking tragedies
Luckily, I don't have any.

Yummy Blueberry Cobbler
With only half of the sugar topping, this cobbler was still plenty sweet, bubbly and satisfying. The family couldn't eat it fast enough.

Cheddar Bay Biscuits
My husband and son gobbled these down. They aren't as fluffy as I expected, more doughy, but still yummy.

Jambalaya
The flavor is great, but as given, the heat is a bit much. I'll definitely be making it again, and either eliminate the hot sauce or the red pepper flakes. With the Cajun seasoning (I use Slap Yo Mama), both those add more heat than is necessary.
