Red Velvet Cake III

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2009
The cake was delicious and very moist. I really liked the frosting (light and not too sweet), but my husband did not. He likes the traditional frosting for this cake.

Beef Yakitori

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2009
5 stars for easiness, and 4 stars for taste. The only thing I changed was that I used large cubes of chicken and grilled for about 4 minutes, flipped and grilled for another 4 minutes. Everyone loved these, especially the kids.

Jet Swirl Pizza Appetizers

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2009
This was a hit at our New Year's Party. I followed another reviewers suggestion and cooked the pepperoni in the microwave first to cut down on the grease. These were gone in minutes. I cooked for about 30 minutes, but covered the roll with Aluminum the last 8 minutes to prevent burning. I wanted to make sure the inside dough was well cooked. Be sure to roll on the long side.

BBQ Cola Meatballs

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2009
Used store bought meatballs. They smelled great and tasted good. The sauce was lighter than the traditional BBQ sauce we are used too - people were split 50/50 on which they liked better. I will make these again.

Shrimp Cream Cheese Spread

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2009
This was just ok. I probably won't make again. It did taste better the second day.

Frosted Cranberries

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2009
So elegant, and so easy! These were the talk of the evening. I used pastuerized egg whites (in the dairy section). I initially rolled them in super fine baker's sugar, but that ended up turning into a runny mess. So, I rerolled in regular sugar, and had much better results. I made them for a garnish, but was surprised by how many people were eating them - even people who said they normally don't like cranberries.

Kerri's Holiday Punch

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2009
This was a huge hit for our New Year's party. I made 1 1/2 times the recipe for 12 adults, and it was gone by the end of the night. I froze in a mold, orange juice and lemon juice to float in the punch. Also, I premixed everything except the soda and added that when my guests arrived.

Warm and Spicy Autumn Punch

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2009
This was a little sweet for our taste. And while the guests drank it, I didn't really see anybody going back for more. I will make again, but probably add some water to "thin" it out a bit. House smelled great after cooking this!

Great presentation! I served with sliced apples and frosted cranberries at our New Year's party - got rave reviews on presentation and taste! Very pretty.

Christmas Pastels

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2008
4 stars for easiness and kid-friendly recipe, 3 stars for taste. I will make these again for a kid audience, but have better recipes for adults palettes. I substituted butter for the shortening, and it worked well. Used strawberry jello this time. Like another reviewer, I would like to make more colors when I have more time.

Cranberry Salad III

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2008
I made exactly per the recipe, except left the nuts out. Very good and a wonderful change from "Straight up" cranberry sauce. I will probably add another orange next time.

Cranberry Fluff

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2008
I skipped the nuts, and subbed pineapple for the grapes. I loved it, but my family thought it was only ok, thus the 4 stars. Very pretty color. I will make again.

Apple-Cranberry Crisp

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2008
Yummy! I doubled the recipe (went heavy on the cranberries) and baked in a 9x13 pan. Per other comments, I used 2t per batch/4t for doubled batch. Delicious! This is my new favorite crisp!

My kids LOVE this recipe! The only change I made was to add some chicken boullion flakes to the boiling noodle water.

Chicken Piccata II

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2008
Like others, I pounded the chicken, then floured it lightly (with plain flour), dipped in egg mixture then dipped in flour mixture. I browned the chicken in butter added 1/2c of white wine, brought it all to a boil, then added a little bit of cornstarch mixed with water to help thicken it. Must add capers!

Slow Cooker Turkey Breast

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2008
SO EASY!! So tasty! Modifications: Used a 7.5lb Bone-in Turkey Breast (almost didn't fit!) I layered the bottom of crockpot with onions and red potatoes, 1/4 cup chicken broth, and 1/2 tbsp. minced garilc. I placed the turkey breast on top and rubbed the turkey with the onion soup packet (lifting up the skin on top of the breast and adding the seasoning right on the meat). Drizzled the breast with melted butter. Cooked on low the whole time, about 7 1/2 hours.

Very good!!! Used 4 eggs like others have suggested and 2 1/2 cups cheese. Another great recipe from this site is the Breakfast Pie recipe.

Maple-Glazed Pork Chops

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2008
My husband does typically not like "sweet" meat. However, I wanted to try something new for pork chops, and given the reviews, I decided to risk it. He loved this recipe as did his brother who was over for dinner. My husband even wants me to make it for his mom, he liked it that much. 2 of my 3 kids liked it. I did use 1/3 c. brown sugar (instead of 2/3 c.). Also the sauce was thick enough I did not need to add the cornstarch.
