About this Cook
I am married and have 4 wonderful children. My boys are 20, 19, and 13; my daughter is 12. My husband has always wanted to open a diner or cafe because he likes to cook. My boys have taken an interest in cooking, especially my oldest. He likes to experiment and is pretty good at it. My daughter does not eat meat so I encourage her to make some of her own meals. This has caused us to get creative at mealtime which is turning out to be a good thing!
My favorite things to cook
Baked goods and anything my family will ALL eat. I enjoy trying new recipes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I enjoy making old recipes that have been handed down from grandparents, old family friends, cookbooks that I have inherited.
My cooking triumphs
I have gotten really good at made-from-scratch cheesecakes. I make the best sloppy joes next to my mothers. My shepherd's pie gets rave reviews and co-workers are always asking me for recipes.
My cooking tragedies
I cannot come up with an original recipe idea to save my life! I can tweak recipes I get from other people or off the internet and they usually turn out well.

Deep-Fried Turkey Marinade
We deep-fry a Turkey every Thanksgiving. For the past couple of years, we have used this recipe. Last year we made 2 turkeys. This one and an injected one. The whole family preferred this turkey and suggested I don't bother with any other unless it is a traditional baked turkey. I am thinking this has become the traditional turkey in our house. I like having the space in my oven and my husband is the one who stands outside in the cold and deep-fries. I mix the marinade a day or two before and apply to thawed turkey. I recommend wearing disposable gloves to rub marinade on turkey. AWESOME! TASTY!

Baked Corn
I tried this recipe because the baked corn we usually make takes longer and calls for more ingredients but it was my husbands favorite so I didn't try anything else...until I came across this recipe when I didn't have enough eggs for our traditional recipe. I made it and my family loved it! I followed the recipe as written and was impressed at how quick and easy it was to throw together. I baked at 375 degrees for about 35 minutes (along with the meat and dinner rolls). I tested for doneness by inserting a toothpick in the center. I really like the fact that I can make this ALONG with other foods. Will make this again for certain. Thanx for a great recipe!

Kitty Litter Cake
I have made this cake for my hubby and his co-workers for several years. They love it. Last year I made it for my co-workers who thought it was a riot. Those who could get past the site of it, thought it had a great flavor. I am making it again this year for both my hubby and I to take to work and an additional one for my son to take to his job. I have used several different variations with cake mixes, cookies and pudding and they all turn out great. Last year, I only had flourescent green food coloring and what an effect that had! I would encourage anyone who tries this recipe to use the litter box and scoop because no matter which cake mix, cookies, pudding or color of food coloring, the "eeewwww" can be heard all around and those who like sweets will like this cake! Definately a Halloween tradition in this household!
