Cola Pot Roast II

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2008
FABULOUS RECIPE! My entire family went crazy for this meal! My teenagers adore gravy, so I DOUBLED the gravy mix, water, dry onion soup mix, cream of mushroom soup and cola. I omitted the carrots and celery (did veggies and potatoes on the side). I took the roast and gravy ingredients and plopped them in my slow cooker before I left for work. Only potatoes and carrots to whip up when I got home! (Bread was in the machine, too!) Ahhhh, modern conveniences! Could it have been better if I had browned the meat first? Maybe. This recipe is EXCELLENT just as written. Will make it over and over again! Thanks a bunch!!!

Potato Bacon Chowder

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2008
My mother used to make this recipe when I was a child and it was always one of my favorites. We always used cream-style corn, but not sour cream. This recipe is perfectly fine; however, I still prefer cream-style corn. Also, if the brand of cream-style corn is not particularly sweet, I add a touch of sugar. Sounds odd, but it makes the flavor. Total comfort food! Thanks!

Cranberry Fudge

Here's the secret.... forget the fresh/frozen cranberries. Use CRAISINS (dried cranberries) and add 1 cup of chopped pecans if you like. Ta da! PERFECT consistency FIRST TIME....!

Baked Potato Salad II

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2007
Loved this recipe! My husband thought it was a bit "rich", but I felt it was an excellent dish for company! Four stars because I felt that adding the bacon and THEN baking caused the bacon to get overdone. Best to top with the bacon 15 minutes before done baking. Thanks for a nice recipe!

Cheese Lover's Tuna Casserole

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2007
This recipe is called CHEESE LOVERS. You would not "cut back" on the cheese for this recipe if you LOVE cheese! That is the point of the amount! Loved it and so did my family! Added a touch of cream to the canned soup. Yum! (Yes, I am a Wisconsinite!)

Pork Roast with Thyme

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2007
OK, EVERYBODY, LISTEN UP! If your complaint is that the meat was TOO DRY, then you need to get out your meat thermometer and USE IT! The #1 reason that pork is "dry" is that you have overcooked it! Pork should be done to an internal temperative of 160 degrees. There should be a touch of pink to it. Sorry, some of you are from the old school of NO PINK IN PORK, but that is just simply not true. This was an absolutely DELICIOUS recipe. My teenage son came up from the rec room to inquire what that AMAZING SMELL was! We ALL loved it! I'll be making this again and again! Only substitution I made was using white wine vinegar as I did not have apple cider vinegar on hand.

Plain Cake Doughnuts

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2007
OK, I had to just laugh at some of the reviews I read..... All those complaints about heaviness and density! Helloooooo??? These are not your Krispy Kreme yeast-raised doughnuts! They are traditional CAKE doughnuts. They are MEANT to be a dense and heavy type of doughnut! I read up on the reviews, heeded some advice and began with a little extra flour in my dough. The time listed from start to end for this recipe was 25 minutes, and it was RIGHT ON! I whipped these up, rolled them out, cut and fried. My daughter rolled in sugar/cinnamon...and my family of five wolfed them down! No problems here! Nice recipe. Simple and easy dough product. Fun and delicious!

Mom's Sweet Potato Bake

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2006
Made this recipe and it is now our family favorite! I have had to share it with my sisters and niece already, as well as some friends! The only twist I gave it was some pumpkin pie spice, but you can leave it out if you like! It is great EITHER way! DOUBLE THUMBS UP!

Crunchy Mandarin Slaw

Reviewed: Aug. 14, 2006
Not the worst slaw I have made, but not the best... Truly SOUNDED like an awesome combination, but overall too WET for our family and rather bland (even though Marzetti's is a fabulous dressing, I think the slaw and fruit watered it down). Then I added the chow mein noodles and it was just this wet, difficult-to-get-on-a-fork kind of salad. Maybe one could drain and dry the fruit first? Make that portion the day before and drain off all liquid befoe adding the Marzetti's? Not sure...

Ann's Shrimp Etouffee

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2006
EXCELLENT recipe! I used this for company and it was RAVED over! I used a chunky one-cup measuring cup, packed the rice tight into it and dumped it out onto each plate. Then I served up the etoufee OVER the mound of rice, garnishing with lemon and orange slices and parsley. PERFECT!

Kielbasa Fried Rice

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2006
This recipe is outstanding! I was looking for something to use my supersized head of cabbage for this week other than the usual coleslaw... I did not have kielbasa on hand, so substituted chicken breast. I used rice noodles instead of rice. My family ADORED this combination! So.....PLAY with this recipe! (I even added my last zucchini on hand!) HINT: A smathering of Padang peanut sauce for those who like it spicy is delightful!!

ABSOLUTELY SCRUMPTIOUS! Made these for a quick dessert for some company tonight.....AWESOME! I, too, soaked the raisins first in hot water for about 15 minutes before adding them to the batter. Otherwise, I did not alter this recipe ONE BIT! YUMMY! THANKS!

I made this recipe for my son's birthday last night (26 years old! This is his favorite meal and he raved (as did all of our guests) over this recipe! It is the BEST stroganoff recipe EVER! I did not have white whine on hand, but DID have sherry... Turned out FABULOUS! Quick and easy, too!

Asian Carryout Noodles

Reviewed: Jun. 9, 2005
I rated this recipe with 5 stars as it is a perfect base recipe. Anyone can take this, play with it and make it suit specific taste preferences. If it is too oily, you have added TOO MUCH SESAME/CANOLA OIL. If it is not spicy enough for you, the ingredients listed are NOT spicy. You need to add red pepper flakes, curry or other spice of your choice to GET IT THAT WAY. Not enough flavor for you? Rummage through your spices and have at it! A nice twist to the hoisin sauce is to use black bean and garlic paste. Throw in a little fish sauce. Play with the veggies. Have FUN with this recipe!

Asparagus Appetizers

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2005
This was absolutely delicious! My teenage daughter whipped these up for a dinner party we were having and it was a HIT! It was SO EASY! If anyone had trouble with this recipe, they HAD to be doing it wrong! We did not have bleu cheese on hand, so we substituted feta crumbles. AWESOME! We LOVE this! Even my younger kids gobbled them up! This recipe is an asparagus "must do"!
