About this Cook
I have been cooking since I was about nine years old. First started out the usual way by "helping" Mom in the kitchen. Then I became the resident family baker, always trying something new. When I was in High School my mom started working and I regularly cooked for our family of seven. Cooking and baking is something I have done and still enjoy doing, especially for family and friends.
My favorite things to cook
Since I love to cook for family, I like to make those things that they request over and over again. I enjoy making the traditional holiday feasts with all the fixings, the Mexican fiesta where my heritage comes in, and I love to bake. Baking is my stress reliever. My coworkers usually get the goodies when I get stressed.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We have "Dinner at Mom's" on a weekly basis. My three sons, two daughters-in-law, three grandchildren, and even my ex all get together and have a wonderful time of eating and visiting. Also, if its your Birthday you get to choose the menu, your favorite meal with all the fixings and your favorite dessert.
My cooking triumphs
Having certain dishes that are tried and true and requested over and over again, from church socials to family dinners to company get togethers.
My cooking tragedies
I used baking soda rather than baking powder when I was learning to make Sopapillas. To this day we call them "Sodapillas." The only time I ever actually threw out a meal, was a Beef Pot Pie, it cooked forever and nothing in it was tender.

Dark and Sweet Rye Bread
I was first given this bread as a gift basket item. My son who does not like dark or whole wheat breads just loved it and my friend used to make it for him. When we moved across country she gave the recipe to me. I have mad this recipe since then and everyone who tastes it just loves it. I don't think it is intended to rise to quite double since it is a slightly denser type bread. We just love it!!
