The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2014
We think these cookies are delicious! I've been making them for several years for our cookie decorating tradition. They stay soft for days and are easy to decorate. I love the simplicity of this recipe and they've always turned out yummy. I did bake them for 10-12 minutes. I used the Sugar Cookie Icing recipe off this site. Great duo!!

Decorator Frosting

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2014
This is the best cookie frosting! I doubled the batch, made 5 different colors and put them in individual zip lock bags, cut a small portion of one corner off and let the kids have fun. Used with The Best Rolled Sugar Cookie recipe on this site. So much fun!

Cocktail Meatballs

Reviewed: Aug. 20, 2014
These meatballs were gone in a flash! I served them at a dinner party and everyone loved them. I made 5.25 pounds of frozen meat balls (NOT Italian) and 4x the sauce. I cooked them in the crock-pot for four hours on high...it would probably be better to cook for at least six hours on low. The Heinz chili sauce is a 12oz bottle which is 1 cup. For those who might wonder, the Wal-Mart brand of chili sauce is just as good as the Heinz; I bought both and couldn't tell a difference (WM was actually thicker). I made the sauce the day before for ease and so the flavors would meld. You can't go wrong with this recipe, it's a winner!

Blueberry Sauce

Reviewed: Aug. 20, 2014
Oh my! So delicious. I made a blueberry and raspberry sauce to serve at party I did with a cheesecake bar for dessert. The raspberry was by far the best thing...we were all licking our plates! I doubled the recipe; used a 24oz bag of frozen raspberries and 18oz fresh blueberries. Definitely make the day before, this is a must if you want good results. The orange juice overpowers the flavors otherwise. A good tip...save some of the fruit to add at the very end of the process, because as it's cooking the fruit reduces and it all becomes a sauce. Which is great, but I like it to also have whole blueberries and raspberries. Better presentation, I think. This would be amazing on pancakes, ice cream, or for your own cheesecake bar...it was phenomenal!

Slow Cooker Italian Beef for Sandwiches

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2014
Delicious and so easy. I used a rump roast because removing the fat was easier for me. I just broke the meat up instead of actually shredding, then added the meat back into the juice. I served it out of the crock pot, but had the oven on so they could throw it in the oven to toast the bread and melt the cheese. I did use two packets of Italian dressing and beef broth instead of water. It's a crowd pleaser!

Oatmeal Pancakes II

Reviewed: Jun. 7, 2014
Love this recipe because I love pancakes and this recipe eases my conscience! I used a little less sugar and salt because of preference, I used coconut oil which gave them a delicious hint of coconut that we love. They did turn out flatter than I usually like, but the flavor makes up for that and they were moist. Great healthy pancake recipe that I can whip up on a whim!

Roasted Vegetable Medley

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2014
I tossed the veggies that needed to cook longer in a bowl with the olive oil, garlic and spices then onto the pan and in the oven they went. Used the same bowl for the other veggies, plus the peppers, then just added them to the pan when it was time. I served this warm, out of the oven. It was a hit. The yam puts this recipe over the top for us, we loved it.

Sweet and Tangy Thai Cucumber Salad

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2014
Yay, I found the recipe I've been looking for and it's so simple. Any changes are strictly preference. Personally, I added a little less sugar and included carrots with the cucumbers and red onions. I doubled the recipe, plus added about 4 medium carrots, and tripled the vinegar mixture. There was 10 of us and I had only a small amount left; easiest thing I made for my dinner party and also the most popular!

This recipe is amazing, just amazing! Simple, easy, quick, yet beautiful and delicious. If you can refrigerate longer than an hour it's better. Any changes are strictly preference. Personally, I added a little less sugar and included carrots with the cucumbers and red onions. I doubled the recipe, plus added about 4 medium carrots, and tripled the vinegar mixture. There was 10 of us and I had only a small amount left; seriously, it was the easiest thing I made for my dinner party and the most popular!

Make-Ahead Turkey Gravy

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2013
If you're like me, you're looking at this recipe so you don't have to stress in front of your company about the coveted gravy for Thanksgiving! I made this the Tuesday before and refrigerated. Pretty easy except for the hardest part (at least for me) the dreaded thickening. I tried the flour, it lumped. Then I remembered a trick from my mom, corn starch mixed with cold water then added a bit at a time into the boiling mixture and stir, stir, stir. It worked. I don't think it made enough for 32 servings, hence 4*. And to think I was considering buying the gravy from a restaurant!

Janet's Rich Banana Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2013
Very moist banana bread, simple, and delicious. It reminds of a banana bread that would've been baked in the 50's, just a simple, delicious banana bread that isn't complicated with other flavors. I used 3 bananas because I wanted to use them up and added extra walnuts, other than that I went by the original recipe. No reason to change, add, or complicate this amazing banana bread recipe.

Mom's Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2012
Very moist and yummy. I used half apple sauce and half oil, 1 cup brown sugar and 1.25 cups white, 3 cups zucchini, and 1 cup chocolate chips. Still sweet to me. I'll use less sugar and more healthy options next time. Double batch made 28 mini-loaves.

Banana Sour Cream Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2012
The most moist banana bread ever! I made these in a pan that made 8 mini-loaves in each pan. I doubled the recipe and it made a lot...32 mini-loaves plus 2 loaf pans. I baked these at 325 and didn't have a problem with them being under-done. Just preference, I cut the sugar to 2 cups per batch and I added 1/2 tsp of nutmeg to the batter. I sprinkled vanilla bean sugar, that I got from a spice store, on the top of the loaves before baking along with some pecans. Delicious! Honestly, it was amazing and very pretty. Personally, I would add even less sugar next time. Could be because of the cinnamon sugar that I dusted the pans with and the vanilla bean sugar on top, but it was still too sweet for me. Overall, excellent recipe that's moist and full of flavor.

Caramel Bars

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2012
These are dangerous! You can't help but be tempted to eat all of them. The only reason I didn't give this recipe a 5* was because I can't imagine making these in a 9x13 pan! And why would you want to double the crust mixture of these CARAMEL bars to make it fit in a 9x13 pan? That doesn't make sense to me. Just make them in an 8x8 pan and wala, perfection! I think there's plenty of topping mixture, I used a whole bag of caramels (might use a few extra text time) and also used a little extra nuts, but other than that I made them in an 8x8 pan, baked as directed, and they were amazing. I pressed the top crust onto the caramel mixture and I had no problems with it falling apart. I really think this recipe was made to be baked in an 8x8 pan. I'm adding them to my Christmas gift boxes this year. I yielded 12 nice size bars…in my 8x8 pan!:)

Irresistible Pecan Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2012
Excellent pecan pie! I used a Pillsbury pie crust, so I can't comment on the crust, but the filling was amazing. Maybe it would be better with vanilla, but I had no complaints. I love all the pecans. This was the best pecan pie recipe I've used, and I've tried a few from this site. This pecan pie wasn't overly sweet, which is amazing for a pecan pie, even I liked it and I don't like pecan pie. I made this recipe as written. Very yummy!
