Chef Gerard's Award Winning Caesar Salad Dressing

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2015
Recipe group pick April 2015...I was really looking forward to this recipe. I enjoy trying new things and "non-traditonal" ingredients or preparations have never scared me off, they inspire me. But I have to say this unique twist on a Caesar dressing didn't work for me. I did halve the recipe, but used exact measurements. It's extremely thick, and after 36 hours in the fridge this was tomato paste consistency. After warming a lots of shaking it came up to dressing consistency. Biggest concern, an overwhelming olive oil taste. I used a very good EVOO. After adding some anchovy paste and kosher salt I felt I could serve this, but hubs was disappointed with his salad. That makes me sad. Thanks for sharing your recipe, and the story of your dad with AR.

Sweet and Smoky Barbeque Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2015
We really liked this sauce recipe, it's very smooth, rich and has nice heat and tang. I prepared exactly as published but halved, and did add a tablespoon of onion powder and several teaspoons of kosher salt. I found it did not need the 30 minute cooking time, it was already very thick, so I just let it bubble a few minutes, cooled and jarred. After 36 hours in the fridge this was delicious on grilled chicken. Thanks for sharing your recipe with AR!

Mango Berry Fruit Salad

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2015
This salad revieced rave reivews for Easter! I did make a few changes, 50/50 blend of spinach & spring greens, added mango chunks directly to the mix, and used pistachios and added a little bacon, no cheese. Served with Paula Deen's poppyseed dressing. My berries were just gorgeous and the beautiful colors in this win over the crowd every time. Thanks for sharing a versitile recipe with us.

Honey Mustard Grilled Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2015
This was delicious on chicken cutletes. I prepared the recipe as written, but after tasting found a tad too mustardy for me, so I added a little more mayo and honey to dillute. Next time I prepare this (and I will!) I'll use equal parts honey and mustard. Great grillin' recipe, thanks for sharing with AR!

Slow Cooker Boneless Turkey Breast

Reviewed: Mar. 30, 2015
Loved the love in this herb rub! I used a 6# bone-in breast, and removed the skin so I could rub the herb mix directly on the meat. I cooked 8 1/2 hours on low, this was so moist and tender. I did halve the rub and liquid. A definite do-over! Thanks for sharing this recipe with AR.

Apple and Brown Sugar Corned Beef

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2015
What a delicious, fun and easy recipe for St. Patrick's Day! I used one 3# corned beef and the published amounts of juice/mustard/sugar. I also added a heaping tablespoon of garlic and some cracked black pepper. I just eyeballed about half of the veggies and threw in there. I let this go 12 hours on low (yep, long day at work!), and this was moist and delicious. Hubs RAVED over this! Thanks for sharing your twist on corned beef with AR, this was fabulous.

Ground Beef Vegetable Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2015
This was a very delicious, thick, and satifying soup for a very cold winter day. As written I think it's more of a stew...very thick. I added 28 oz low sodium beef broth to get this up to a soup consistency and only used 1 1/2 lb ground beef. I also added Montreal seasoning, garlic and onion powders to the published ingredients. Loved all of the veggies in here. A thumbs up from hubs, too, with plenty of leftovers for the freezer. Thanks for sharing your recipe with us, Sue!

Arroz Con Pollo

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2015
An absolutely delicious recipe! Such a comforting and hearty winter dish, and loaded with sweet/salty/garlicy flavor. I just used 1 1/2 lb boneless/skinless thighs, and the other ingredients as listed. I added two tablespoons of sofrito as well. I also added the peas, raisins, olives (green) and pimentos with the rice and other ingredients to make cooking this a breeze. I baked for an hour, covered, since I was using less meat, and boneless thighs. A definite do-over, thanks for sharing this yummy recipe with AR.

Bolognese on Bucatini

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2015
This really came out great. I found three turkey bolognese recipes I liked parts of, but not a complete one. So I developed this with my favorite parts in a little smaller batch. Don't skip the Montreal, it really makes it. I didn't think this needed any added salt or pepper, both are in the Montreal, so taste before adding anything.

Best Calico Baked Beans

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2015
Joan, these were so, so, so good! I made them for my Sugar Bowl party, and they were a hit. I wish I had taken a picture, they were so pretty, but in my rush to get the food out I didn't ;(. Only change, I used a pound of ground chorizo, browned, instead of the bacon and beef. They were spicy and oh, so good! Thanks for sharing, this will be my new go-to bean recipe!

Buckeye Bash Buffalo Pasta Salad

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2015
This came out great. Served this at my Sugar Bowl party and it was a hit. Made exactly as written, about 4 hours before serving. Might add just a tad more buffalo wing sauce next time. Thanks to the Buzz Babes for helping me the final touches on this recipe, the crumbled blue cheese was awesome!

Lobster Dip

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2015
Loved this recipe. I made this for a football party and everyone loved the taste and fun presentation. I made as written, but did add a bit more horseradish, some tabasco, and Old Bay. Also added a few tablespoons of milk to make a smoother consistency. Served with Old Bay flavored potato chips, what a decadent snack! Thanks for your recco, Lucky Noodles, and thanks for sharing your recipe with AR chef-girl-dee!

Sweet Pork Slow Cooker Chili

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2014
We really enjoyed this delicious and different chili recipe. Loved the sweet/savory/salty going on here, especially the addition of the pineapple, yum! With an ingredient list this big I did make a few tweaks based on what I had, used 1 lb ground pork and 1 lb ground chicken (I use this mix in a sloppy joe recipe i make and love the texture and cuts a few calories), a 15 oz can of fire roasted tomatoes instead of the romas, an 8oz can of tomato sauce instead of paste, and doubled the curry, love the stuff. I also added a couple of heaping tablespoons of sambal oleek for some heat. Lots left over for the freezer. Thanks for sharing your recipe with AR, a hit!

Grandma's Pork Chops in Mushroom Gravy

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2014
Terrific quick recipe and a great alternative to "the can". I did take some liberties with the cooking method and a few ingredient tweaks since I was using super thin cut pork chops. I used Montreal on the chops so skipped added garlic to the pan and browned in a mix of butter and shallot infused oil. I removed chops and added mushrooms and onion to the pan, sauted until soft, then added a can of french onion soup, sherry, cold butter, and a slurry of sherry/flour to thicken. Lots of nice cracked black pepper and a few shakes of dried bouquet garni, too. Added the pork chops back into the sauce and let them gently simmer for a half hour or so on the stove. Just delicious. Great base, glad I found your recipe & thanks for sharing with AR.

Slow Cooker Chicken Gumbo with Shrimp

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2014
This was a delicious and easy weeknight gumbo. Took me about 15 minutes to throw together. A few enhancements, I used two cans of tomatoes with okra and one stewed, added sliced andouille chicken sausage, and used a couple of teaspoons of file gumbo. Enjoyed this recipe! Thanks for sharing, Reynolds.

French Chicken Stew

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2014
Loved this stew! Makes a big pot, for sure! I used nice large chunks of veggies and just eyeballed the amounts. Recipe does say add wine, but the ingredient list doesn't show it, so I added 1/2 cup dry sherry. I did use Classico Creamy Alfredo, it was delicious. My only regret was slow cooking this on high only 5 hours (time constraints), next time on low for a good eight+ hours or so, my chunky carrots were still a bit hard, but edible. I added some garlic powder too. A do-over for sure, hubs just loved this.

Crab and Swiss Melts

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2014
Thank you for sharing your recipe with AR, JAYDA, these were tasty. I added some fine diced celery to the mix and used liberal amounts of Tabasco. Next time I think I'll use 1/2 of the cream cheese called for so the taste is a little more "crabby" than "cheesey". Served with Cindy's clam chowder, a nice easy meal.
