About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
I'm always expanding my repetoire. Appetizers, desserts, main courses..it depends on the time of year and who I'm cooking for.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Hmmm, I grew up in Canada with strong British background and my husband is American with a Greek background. We moved to New York last year so I'm in the process of introducing my new family to some of my Canadian traditions little by little and learning some of theirs.
My cooking triumphs
Butter tarts and trifle are a big hit with the American part of the family... and my husband was very impressed with my first attempt at Spanokapita (from this site)
My cooking tragedies
Worst...cinnamon buns for Christmas morning. I make these every year, usually they're great..one year I had out of town guests coming and the dough diden't seem to be rising so I threw it out and started from scratch. Unfortunately, my Cocker Spaniel got into the garbage and ate the raw dough which proceeded to rise in her tummy!!!! Fortunately she was fine and never begged for cinnamon buns again.

Spicy Slow Cooker Black Bean Soup
Not your ordinary Black Bean Soup. I made this for dinner tonight and my husband requested the 5 star review. Changes I made: I added a diced onion, added a 28 oz can of tomatoes, used 2 lbs of dried beans, did not add jalapeno instead I added Tabasco, chipotle hot sauce and doubled all other spices. A great basic recipe that I adjusted to our tastes. Thanks

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie
My husband is a cookie Monster:-) and I'm always in search of a new recipe to try for his night time snack. Bar none these are the best chocolate chip cookies. (who knew an extra egg yolk would make such a difference) Extremely crunchy on the outside/chewy on the inside. I have doubled this recipe and it makes 48 large cookies. I have also played with different fillings.. For a double batch I used 1 bag chocolate chips and 1 bag cinnamon chips (they were on sale ;)) plus a cup of caramelized corn flakes I had made for another cookie recipe. The result was delicious
