fabulous! however....per reviews i did add worcestire sauce, used fresh tomato instead of canned, 1.5 lb stew meat, did not sautee veggies, added 3 diced potatoes, 9 oz. corn instead of mixed frozen veggies, 4 cups beef broth instead of water/boullion, and 1.5 cups barley. i put EVERYTHING except salt and barley in a crockpot (low) for ~9 hrs (quite enough). per recommendations, i waited until 20 minutes before dinner time to add barley. nope; still VERY FIRM. turned pot up to high for another 25 minutes...still firm...i say after 9 hrs in pot on low add barley and turn up to high for 1 hr.; that's what worked for me....with these modifications it was DELIGHTFUL!!!! i will make this so many more times....

Chicken with Pear Sauce

unbelevably bland; do this: double the salt and pepper on the chicken. add (to chicken) white cooking wine and hot sauce. to pear sauce, add small amount of white wine and hot sauce. boil pears in wine, hot sauce, chicken broth and honey for a few minutes, then mash pears (essentially make a rue). spoon over chicken in a casserole dish and bake for 15-20 minutes. yum.

Pear Crumb Pie

absolutely fantastic pie; very easy as well. i used asian pears off my neighbor's tree and only needed to cook the pie for 50 minutes (35 w/out topping, 15 with) and it turned out perfect. (i foiled the crust edges after 15 minutes.) i did end up with extra topping, though not enough to halve the recipe. i think 3/4 would be sufficient, but i don't know that it would be worth the trouble of using such strange measurements. i will definitely make this one again.
