Indian Tomato Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2014
Flavor wasn't bad, but nowhere near the level that the spices hinted at while it cooked. A decent meal, but not in the ballpark if your family prefers things spicier.

Buffalo Chicken and Roasted Potato Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2014
Twice in a week I found recipes on here that got a full four thumbs from my family. Truly something to celebrate! The only actual change I made was in the amount of the hot pepper sauce. I just splashed in enough so that it seemed right, but we tend to like thing spicier. I wound up doubling the "marinade" recipe since there was nothing left to saute the chicken chunks in after doing the potatoes. I then cooked the chicken so that it was at least cooked on all sides with no pink showing before transferring it to the oven for the final bake. Even with the extra hot sauce I used it bakes up very mild, so have plenty of extra on hand if you like a true buffalo kick.

Monterey Chicken with Potatoes

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2014
My family seldom agrees on anything I make for dinner, but in this case I was shocked to find all thumbs up in agreement. I'm always on the look for a new recipe bullet to add to the dinner gun, and decided that chicken and potatoes were a sadly neglected option. This was the first of three that I printed off, so hopefully the others come close. I did microwave the potatoes for three minutes after dicing them, and I found that smaller breasts work better than larger ones. I especially liked the fresh taste of the cilantro. My son finished off the leftovers tonight and raved about the taste of the potatoes after they had picked up the flavor of the salsa, cheese and cilantro. I will make it again, possibly with a bit more salsa and cilantro just to spread the flavors around a little more, but the baseline recipe is a fresh tasting, family friendly entree.

Bowler Beef Marinade

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2011
Excellent marinade. The only change I made was using lite soy sauce to cut down on the amount of sodium.

Ham and Noodle Casserole

Reviewed: Apr. 29, 2010
Had this for dinner tonight. Not bad, but fairly bland. My wife and daughter both remarked that it seemed to be missing something, but neither could come up with any suggestions as to what it might be.

Swiss Chicken Casserole II

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2009
I made this according to the recipe and was shocked at how bland it was. Not unpleasant or anything, just very "milky" tasting. I saw another suggestion about using white wine instead of milk, which I think I'd try if I were to give this another chance, but I doubt it will come to that.

Upside Down Pizza

Reviewed: May 19, 2009
Good idea for a quick and easy meal. I added Italian seasoning to the beef as it browned and pepperoni slices just because it seemed like the thing to do, but the basic recipe lends itself to being used as a starting point for whatever your family might like in a pizza. (Mushrooms? Olives? Peppers?) I think I might try it with Italian sausage the next time.

Basil Chicken and Pasta

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2008
They need to have a 1/2 star on here, because this wasn't perfect, but it was really close. I followed the directions except for the addition of sun-dried tomatoes, which added some flavor, but also quite a bit of oil. Next time I'll use dried or water packed tomatoes, or drain the jar beforehand. The end result got four thumbs up from my somewhat picky family.

Broiled Herb Butter Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2008
For an easy meal, I thought this was okay, but the rest of the family wasn't quite as thrilled. Everyone seemed to agree that it was missing something. I might give it a try with some lemon juice (as one of the other reviewers suggested,) or with a white wine marinade.

Marinated Flank Steak

Reviewed: Feb. 18, 2008
I made this on Saturday night for the whole family. The smell as these steaks hit the grill is incredible and I could barely keep my hands out of the way of my wife's electric knife as she sliced them. I made four steaks for 10 adults and 2 kids and had some left over for a late meal on Sunday. I'm going to try the recipe again, but with reduced sodium soy souce.

Bacon and Roquefort Stuffed Burgers

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2007
Tried these last night using 80-20 ground chuck and gorgonzola cheese. They were fantastic! My kids weren't thrilled, but they'll definitely appeal to the adults in the chow line. I'm going to try making them the next time (soon) with cheddar crumbles and bacon for the kids, and follow the recipe exactly for the adults.

Herbed Sweet 'n' Sour Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2007
My 13 year old daughter, who is far from a chicken fan, had a double portion of this and actually said that she loved it. The only change I made was to mix the ingredients in a saucepan over low heat to allow the honey to mix better.

Braised Balsamic Chicken

We're always on the lookout for quick, easy recipes, and this one fit the bill better than most. Even my daughter who isn't a chicken fan had a second helping. I'm looking forward to making this for company.

Barbecue Beef for Sandwiches

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2005
The attraction to this recipe is the ease of preparation. I was surprised at how good the simple sauce recipe turned out. My kids were split on the meal. My son ranked it second behind a recipe I tried over the winter. My daughter, a bird-like eater anyway, wasn't too thrilled.
