Black Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2006
Mine was a flop, I didn't know if maybe it was something I did. I followed the recipe to the T except tried to make muffins instead of a cake. and I was going to frost them with my peanut butter frosting recipe on this sight (awesome by the way). But I did not get that far. The muffins top did not rise, they just popped right off the muffins and the inside was so crumbly I couldn't even think about peeling the paper off of one. Tomorrow is Easter so I had to just use the recipe on the cocoa box at the last minute, I was very dissapointed.

Italian Cream Cake I

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2006
Fantastic!!! I doubled the frosting, I added pecans to the frostings and decorated with some on the outside. I made this for my aunts birthday, she loves Italian cream cake, they ordered one from her favorite bakery and I made one too, mine put the bakery cake to shame, I even got emails telling me how good this cake was, excellent, the frosting makes it so don't use any other kind of frosting on this cake or it will not be as good. Super!! Oh yeah I cut down the powdered sugar, I put in a cup "less" than called for in the frosting, it was plenty sweet.

Baked Corn I

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2005
This is awesome, I used Jiffy corn bread mix because it is slightly sweet, and 1 stick of butter works fine. I usually don't like corn mixed in with stuff (call me weird) but this was great, I'll be making this all the time now it's so simple. I baked it in a round deep casserole dish and it baked up beautiful.

Yellow Squash Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2005
Oh this is good, I could eat this stuff for breakfast. It did not turn out runny like I was afraid it might, it set perfectly. I used sweet yellow onions. No more fried squash for this family, this is the only way to have squash. And OH so easy!! Thanks for sharing.

J.P.'s Big Daddy Biscuits

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2005
Made these today, while they were ok, they didn't have the WOW factor I was hoping for, they were too dense and didn't have that light and fluffy texture I thought they would, They were rather large (due to the thickness you cut them) but very heavy, the taste was kinda bland, actually they tasted alot like the biscuit mix you can buy in the package for .79 cents at the grocery store, not awful...just dull. They tasted ok with strawberry jam and butter but I was wanting the ones like KFC,big fluffy light they are just good all by themselves, I'll keep looking.

Chocolate Lovers' Favorite Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2005
I thought this cake was just ok, it just didn't have the WOW factor I was expecting after reading the reviews. It wasn't bad, just wasn't fabulous either. I agree with the lady who said it tasted like a spruced up cake mix, definatley had that cake from a box flavor. I used a duncan hines cake mix. Tasted like a box cake with chocolate chips thrown in. It was easy though.

Mac and Cheese II

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2005
This was ok, pretty plain, the taste wasn't much different then just melted velvetta and milk poured over noodles, just wasn't as sticky. Needed alot of seasonings, was kinda dissapointed but it was still decent. I quadrupled the recipe. I was cooking for a crowd of 30 and I have a ton left over. Will probably try a different recipe next time to compare.

Honey Bun Cake I

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2005
Great recipe, really does taste like a honey bun. At first I saw how much oil in the cake and how much vanilla in the glaze and I thought geez thats a bunch but it works. I had alot of the brown sugar left over but I did use all the glaze. Whole family agrees it taste like a honey bun, very strange that it does lol, but glad that it does. Very sweet, great with cold milk or coffee. Thanks!!!

Grandma's Egg Custard Pie

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2005
Very good custard, I doubled the recipe and both were gone in two days. The only thing I did different was I put the custard in a water bath in the oven. I have always put the custard pies on a cookie sheet and added about an inch of water to the cookie sheet like a "bath". Very good, I will make again.

Old Fashioned Peach Cobbler

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2005
MMMM delish!!! I doubled the dough recipe (I like lots of crust). I was kinda "iffy" on the nutmeg and orange juice but the nutmeg gave the most incredible subtle flavor and I dont know what the orange juice did but it was not orangy so its ok with me. I cooked my peaches for a considerable time longer ( I like my peaches soft)I was going to reduce the sugar since so many others suggested it but the peaches I bought were not very sweet so I thought I better not reduce it, didnt matter, was still very sweet, so next time I will use only 1 1/2 cups instead of 2. I like sweet stuff but it was just a tad too sweet for me. Even still was a 5 star recipe!!! Since I cooked my peaches longer I added some water (about half a cup). I used butter flavor crisco. This was the first time I have made a cobbler, took a little time but came out wonderful and was not hard. Will use from now on!!! Thanks for sharing!!!

Aunt Johnnie's Pound Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2005
This cake turned out AWESOME. I used butter flavored crisco and used the electric mixer to cream butter and sugar, but I mixed the rest by hand, so not to add too much air to the batter. I used vanilla instead of almond and used a spongcake pan so no overflow. Some reviews said it was too light and spongecake like, but mine was not, it was perfect, very heavy, was not too sweet, was perfect. I used large eggs instead of extra large (didnt want it too fluffy), and I used cake flour. I made 2 and glazed one with milk and powdered sugar, they were both incredible, I even rotated flour and milk, beginning with flour and ending with flour. Can't say enough about this recipe, I will use it forever now! Thank you!!!
