Spinach Quiche with Kid Appeal

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2010
I never expected all my children to like this but it was so yummy looking I had to try it. Sure enough all five from the six year old to the seventeen asked for seconds. I'll make two next time and will try a bit of sausage. We used 1/2 tsp basil and 1/2 tsp dill, minused one egg per other reviews (next time I'll use all 8) and I grated my onions to hide them from the children LOL. Thanks for a great recipe! Revision; Made this again using all of the eggs & 1/4 c. half & half. In the interest of time I omitted the onion/garlic step and used 1/4 tsp. powdered garlic and no onion. Tried diced broccoli and leftover diced chicken breast w/ cheddar cheese, and used thyme this time. So yummy. This is the perfect recipe to use what you have on hand. Definitely a favorite weekly meal now. Thanks again!

Spiced Pumpkin Dip

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2005
WOW! Hubby and the kids all loved this. I substituted frozen orange concentrate for the extract, because it was on hand, it worked very well. Tastes yummy on sliced apples, ginger snaps and graham crackers.

Buttery Yeast Spritz

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2011
I halved this because I was so unsure of the yeast but I wanted to try a new spritz recipe. The only change was to add vanilla and almond extracts. I also baked the spritz recipe my German mother and I have been using for over 40 years. In side by side taste tests 7 of 7 of us preferred this recipe. No contest! This will be the recipe I pass down to my children and someday grandchildren! Thanks so much!

Oatmeal Sourdough Rolls

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2012
Fantastic! I've made 2 batches so far. I followed the recipe pretty closely except for the additional flour needed which is very typical when making bread because of environmental differences. The second batch I used 1/4 butter (1/2 cup is just to much fat in a loaf of bread), and rolled oats that I soaked in the water, 1 cup wheat flour 2 cups white and again additional flour to reach the right consistency. These were light and fluffy with a soft crust. The kids devoured them. I agree it would be very hard to get 24 rolls from one batch but these are so yummy I'll need to double them every time! A few hints when using sour dough; it must be kneaded until the dough is soft not sticky and an imprint with your knuckle springs back slowly. There is a fantastic site to explain the nuances of working with sour dough http://www.thewilbournegroup.com/Sourdough/SourdoughStarterHelp.html , especially note the paragraph on shaping and baking. I've never had another misshapen flat loaf again.(well worth the read). We made cinnamon rolls with a batch of these, also very yummy. Thanks for the great recipe!

Carrot Cake VIII

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2009
This is fantastic! I made it for Christmas day. I changed the raisins to golden raisins and left out the nuts, everything else was as directed. It was so moist and delicious. The frosting was superb. It tastes even better the next day. a note; when working with baking soda as an ingredient you must mix only enough to moisten the dry ingredients, fold in the remaining raisins, coconut, and walnuts then quickly fill your cake pans. Mixing to long will result in less rise in the oven and a dense cake. Thank you Anra Lee this is heavenly good.

I really thought the kids would balk at the black beans but everyone loved it. Now I make these almost every week. Thanks for the great recipe!

Chantal's New York Cheesecake

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2006
OK true story. The night before Thanksgiving my cat ate the middle out of my cheese cake while it was cooling on our deck. So 5 ***** from him. I whipped together a new batch (once I could see through my blurry, tear soaked, eyes again) and the rest of the family equally gave this 5 stars. Thank you for the great recipe!

Sour Cream Waffles

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2006
Christmas Morning GOOD! Need I say more. If perfect can be improved upon though I did make the first batch as written then for the next batch, I followed the lemon jce. instead of vinegar w/ 1 tsp. of vanilla advice and it was delicious. We served them with homemade chunky applesauce and syrup & cream! What a delightful breakfast!

Homemade Condensed Milk

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2012
This is exactly what I needed for the granola bar recipe here on AR. I replaced 1 cup white sugar with 1/2 cup honey. We are trying to reduce white sugar in our diet. It had the perfect consistency! Thank you!

Fluffy French Toast

Reviewed: May 5, 2011
To keep the cinnamon from rising to the surface of the milk, wisk it into the eggs before adding other ingredients. I used honey in place of white sugar which we don't use, and a bit of nutmeg. Nice fluffy french toast.

Oriental Sesame Slaw

This is our new all time favorite coleslaw. I'll never use sugar again in coleslaw. Thank you for a great recipe! Revised: My husband and I started the Atkins Diet, I modified this recipe using 4 packets of Splenda instead of honey and it was still terrific!

Italian Dressing Mix

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2012
WAY too salty as written. Reduce the salt to one Tbs and this Italian dressing mix would be 5*****. We use this mix constantly. I omit the water in my preparation because I find the lettuce tends to have water on it from washing. Thanks Debby

Butter Flaky Pie Crust

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2010
I've always used a pie crust recipe using eggs, vinegar and bking pwdr until my husband mentioned (after 20 yrs LOL) that he doesn't prefer "cakey type" crusts. So I tried this one today w/ quiche. I'll NEVER go back. This was so easy I didn't change a thing, which is unusual for me. I made it entirely in my Kitchenaid, the dough was a bit soft but rolled out on a floured stone beautifully. It was flakey and had a great taste. Thanks for a great recipe.

Kentucky Biscuits

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2008
I've tried several biscuit recipes on this site and each has been OK but this one BEATS any others hands down. First this was so much easier than rolling cutting and rerolling and cutting to form biscuits a lot of work for me. Now easier is great but only if the food taste good, well these were delicouis. They were light brown and slightly crunchy outsight and fluffy soft inside with a buttery taste. I needed to bake them longer than written but that of course has more to do with oven variations. Honestly I won't be looking any further for our perfect quick dinner biscuit recipe. Thanks for the recipe! I've loved this recipe so now that I've had a chance to play with it some, here's what I did. After mixing original recipe mix in 1/4 cup parmesan cheese and 1/2 cup shredded cheddar, drop by large spoonfuls onto pizza stone. Bake a minute longer. Perfect!

These were surprisingly moist and had a fantastic flavor. Not to mention they come with less "guilt" because they are full of good ingredients.
