About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
Apple pie, pancakes, fancy frosted sugar cookies, homemade breads
My cooking tragedies
I once tried making mashed potatoes with white long potatoes!! when I finished with the hand mixer after adding sour cream, milk, and lots of butter they looked more like whipped white american cheese they even had strings like mozzarella on pizza. we had to toss the whole batch. and then there was the brined turkey legs (gag) I thought i was sucking on driftwood from the Dead Sea!

Waldorf Salad with Walnut Oil Vinaigrette
wonderful. as good and as different as i thought it would be. i made it for thanksgiving (totally untried before) and was not disappointed. My in-laws and their boys even liked it. and they usually pretty tame palates. I increased the serving to 8 people and it was more than enough. I DID however add a few handfuls of grapes halved, dried cranberries and a mix of golden and regular raisins. Toasting the walnuts is a MUST. for that matter toasting all your nuts for about anything you make will be like adding a little sugar, oil, and water to flour to make bread, as opposed to just swallowing a handful of flour. it makes a BIG difference (for most things) You should try this recipe, don't forget the pepper, yes pepper!

Rum and Sweet Potato Casserole
When my husband and I tasted this we looked at each other and knew that I'd never have to search for ANY OTHER sweet potato casserole recipe ever. This is THE ONE. I'm southern bred and I can say this one knocks all the other casseroles of the potluck (or turkey day) table.

Two Tier Strawberry Pie
My in law family just loved this pie, I added brushed melted chocolate to the bottom crust like someone suggested. I didn't like the way it set up, it seemed to soft, but it didn't run at least. Next time I will forget the chocolate (I never liked chocolate covered strawberries so I don't know why I would like it in a pie, but I tried) I give it 3 stars for the family
