About this Cook
Married 40+ years, 1 son. I come from a big family background of GREAT cooks. I've enjoyed cooking when I could get most anything I wanted to use, but I've probably cooked more creatively when I've had to be more frugal.
My favorite things to cook
Probably desserts of many types. And, I love putting together any special meal. I love cooking for anyone who enjoys eating.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Making sweets and other goodies at Christmastime to share with friends & family...from dry soup mixes to nuts and everything in between.
My cooking triumphs
When I was about 12, my dad worked with a man who was single and said he missed having homemade pie. (By that time I'd mastered pie crusts and all kinds of fillings.)He PAID me to bake a pie for him every couple of weeks. My confidence in baking soared!
My cooking tragedies
The first meal I made after I was married...I made brown gravy. I had cooked beef & wanted nice dark brown gravy. Overcooked the flour/dripping mixture and boy was it brown and THICK. My husband thought it was a dish of chocolate pudding!!! There have certainly been others, but that was a real lulu!

Kristen's Parmesan Roasted Potatoes
Tried this exactly as written other than using Lite Salt. I used red potatoes. Made it for the first time for guests and we all enjoyed it greatly. As some reviewers suggested, I did lightly spray the parchment paper with Pam and had no problem with them sticking at the time I turned them or when I removed them to the serving dish.

Hungarian Mushroom Soup
Made this today as written using button and crimini mushrooms. I will definitely make it again. Delicious! This is an earthy and very filling soup that is quite eye-appealing as well. Served with a chewy, artisan bread.

Lemon Freeze Pie
This is mild lemony creamy pie... so good we didn't wait for it to thaw but ate the first slice frozen. Soooo simple to make. I did not have fruit cocktail at the time but will make it with next time. I also did not use 9x13 but a ready-made graham crust which made a nice high pie.
