Peppermint Meringues

People that don't follow directions in a recipe and then post their displeasure really annoy me. If you can't follow a simple recipe why do you expect it to turn out correctly and why complain about your stupidity? Anyway, this recipe is great. I do the usual piping, with two bags. One with stripes of red food coloring painted in it and the other with green. I also add a little drop of peppermint oil in the meringue as well as topping with crushed candy canes. It’s also fun to shape the meringue into candy canes. Get creative!

Italian Vegetable Soup

This is really flavorful. The first time I made it the directions were followed exactly...minus the cabbage. Can not stand cook cabbage. Second time was experiment time. I did add two more cups of water as well as a generous splash of Côtes-du-Rhône, a nice little red wine I like to use in cooking. Turned out fantastic! Once again, I took some over to my 95 year old Swiss neighbor. Having learned from the chicken noodle soup, this time I took over enough for her to have a couple of meals from it. She comes from Italian Canton Ticino here. She said it reminded her of the soup her mother use to make. I think that is a pretty good endorsement!

Jenn's Out Of This World Spaghetti and Meatballs

The only thing I change is the water. It's omitted. Otherwise I like this just the way it is. I've made it so many times for people that it's now the meal requsted by folks when I invite them over to share a meal.

Usually I try different things with any recipe I find. This is perfect just as it is. When you have German and Swiss/German people asking you for the recipe well, that says it all.

Sloppy Joes II

It's great! Better than what my mom made...and that's saying something. I sort of laughed at the comment posted by Momof2 stating they thought it was too sweet and they don't like the green pepper. Ever thought of just cutting down on the suger and skip the pepper?

We enjoy this recipe at least once a week just after I've made spaghetti sauce which I use in place of the pizza sauce. Usually use store bought dough just to cut the time. For the people that complain it makes too much "crust" have you done what the poster suggested and cut it in half? No, I didn't think so. I mean, why do something intelligent when you can complain instead? When I make the dough any left over gets made into garlic bread sticks.

Chicken Noodle Soup

This is a simple and good recipe. I don't use as many bouillon cubes as the recipe calls for but it turns out fine anyway. Of course we all add or subtract according to our tastes. For me it's more chicken (I use only breast meat) and no celery. (Can't stand celery unless it's filled with peanut butter!). I also cut the chicken breast into large chunk and cook it in the soup. Think it adds a bit more flavor. Made this tonight and took some over to a 95 year old Swiss neighbor. She hardly eats enough to keep her alive. Tonight she asked me if I had some extra she could have. I gladly ran home and got more for her. She ate two and a half bowls in one sitting! Thanks for this one!

Hot Cross Buns I

Very nice recipe. Turned out just fine even though I cheated and only made nine instead of the twelve. I like bigger buns...sue me! The only thing I wish I had done is add a bit of vanilla as I see now someone else did. Next time. Also, didn't have any instant milk and just used the water. Turned out just fine.

David's Yellow Cake

Anyone who complains about this recipe is either incapable of reading and thus following directions becomes a problem or they didn't follow directions yet still claimed to. This cake is the best of any Yellow Cake recipes I've ever tried. I'm tossing out all of them and only using this one from now on. As stated by someone else, the key is to make sure you cream the butter and sugar really well. If you don't and the cake doesn't come out the way you'd like it to, then it's your own fault.
