Roasted Vegetables

Delicious!! I used Italian seasoning instead of all the other spices and additional veggies: eggplant, okra, mushrooms, plantain.

Benne Wafers

Reviewed: Feb. 18, 2013
This recipe is very easy to make, but I found it time intensive because of the 1/2 tsp drops. I followed it exactly and got great results. I would not make this again just because the cookie is on the sweet side for my particular taste. However, the crispy texture was exactly what I was looking for.

Indian Peanut Stew

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2010
This tasted simple and uninteresting (exactly like tomatoes & peanut butter). It also looked pretty disgusting. The red tomatoes and brown PB created a pink colour that was very unappetizing.

Chocolate Pretzels

Reviewed: May 10, 2010
I found small pretzels in the bulk section of the grocery store. I heated it 2 mins, another reviewer mentioned that candy kisses get shiny when they're ready to come out of the oven, but even then the kisses still weren't as melty as the picture. After a few candy coated chocos went on, they began to turn out better from the heat of the pan. After a while, it got a bit too melty - next time I will transfer them to a plate sooner. So easy to make and they taste great!! I will definitely make these again.

Tzatziki Sauce I

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2009
Great EASY recipe: I strained the yogurt using paper towel in a colander for about an hour or two in the fridge. I increased the garlic and dill because I like strong flavours. This is a good recipe to play around with.

Black Bean Brownies

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2009
It's a brownie with a fine black bean texture. Yummy but not DELICIOUS, too "light" to satisfy a true brownie craving. I increased vanilla to 1 tbsp, 1 tbsp instant cappuccino instead of instant coffee, 3 tbsps margarine.

Scottish Shortbread II

I found this shortbread to be overly buttery. Next time I will cut back the butter to 1/2 cup

Scallops with White Wine Sauce II

Reviewed: May 11, 2008
Very easy to make, so easy that you can't go wrong... (plus anything with this much butter tastes good!) Have it with dinner rolls to sop up the extra sauce.

Fortune Cookies I

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2007
Turned out really well! I sprayed parchment paper with oil and made them paper thin, literally - it's ok if you can see through them a little. I drew 3" circles on the opposite side of the parchment so that I could make evenly round. I followed the ingredients exactly and found it made a dozen perfectly... if you can only make 6 like I read on a review, then maybe they're not thin enough. DEFINATELY use cotton gloves - or you'll find yourself using your sleeve. Your first batch should be a trial batch - Although I only tried doing 3 at a time, I could probably handle making 4-5 at a time.

Chicken Makhani (Indian Butter Chicken)

Reviewed: Oct. 1, 2006
Awesome recipe, however i made a few changes: for ginger garlic paste, I mashed up equal parts ginger & garlic. Added 1 tsp extra of garam masala in the sauce (it tasted somewhat bland like plain yogurt beforehand.) Used 18% table cream. Used 1/4 tsp ground fenugreek/methi. Instead of cornstarch & water, I used 1 tbsp ground almounds. Note that in the directions, cayenne is missing from step #1. I will definately make this again. Definately beats restaurant bought Butter Ckn that can be so unpredictable like being over priced &/or runny.

Dessert Crepes

It's alright. This recipe didn't wow me. There's nothing wrong with it, just not excellent like some of the other recipes on here that get 5 stars.

Chocolate Cheesecake I

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2005
I love this recipe, it's super easy. I can suggest 3 variations: 1) Instead of melting the chocolate chips, i stir it into the batter before pouring it into the crust. 2) My favourite thing to do is to make individual servings in 6 ramekins, 1/3 of the recipe makes the right amount, 3) When I don't have graham crackers on hand, i mash up digestive cookies. As well, for humidity I place the ramekins in a baking pan filled with about 1 cm of water... I got this idea from several members who said that otherwise the cheesecake might crack.

Garlic Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2005
SIMPLE RECIPE, TRY IT!! I made 3 variations to the recipe: 1) I used drumsticks with skin, 2) a ridiculous amount of garlic which i crushed in a mortor and soaked in the olive oil for a few hours, and 3) I had "italian style" bread crumbs on hand (has romano cheese in it already) which i substituted for the parmesan and bread crumbs. It tasted crispy and as if it was fried. Next time i will try adding chili powder to the olive oil to make it spicy.

Best Ever Jalapeno Poppers

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2005
Takes time but saves money compared to buying them. I have made this recipe several times, my suggests are: 1) Use Old Cheddar - otherwise they taste bland, 2) Wear gloves when handling the peppers - otherwise they will sting and you will need to ice your hands, 3) After frying, sometimes the peppers were still a bit crunchy/uncooked - next time I will try grilling the jalapeno halves before using them.

Great with extra sugar: I used regular white bread - and added sugar, as others have suggested.

Egg Tarts II

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2005
Very sweet but tastes good. I have only made custard part, without the pastry - by pouring the mixture into a pan. After making this recipe a few times I've found that cutting down on the sugar doesn't change its wonderful taste. For example, I use 1/2 cup of white sugar or so.
