About this Cook
I wax and wane in my cooking "moods" but when I get in one: look out! I'll try anything that appears to be a challenge (or just really tasty). I'm pretty big into doing things from scratch as I like the control of what goes into my meal. Admittedly, I will buy the occasional frozen pie crust or will take a short-cut here or then when I'm in a hurry. Everything in moderation, right?
My favorite things to cook
Really depends on my mood and time of year. Thai Eggplant never gets old and I love prepping a good Thanksgiving dinner.
My favorite family cooking traditions
When I was younger my dad and I would always make our own BBQ sauce and slow-cooked ribs for New Years. That's a messy but great time!
My cooking triumphs
Making an awesome lemon meringue pie on the firs try is pretty high up there (thanks allrecipes-ers!). Also honing a thai eggplant recipe that is pretty killer.
My cooking tragedies
After preheating my wok on high for a while I went ahead a poured my sesame oil on the pan. Lets just say it's a good thing fire doesn't scare me. More funny than sad and a lesson learned.

Grilled Portobello Mushrooms
Great flavor and simple. I use my cast iron grill pan indoors and it turns out great! This will make smoke indoors though so make sure you have good ventilation if you go that route.

Baked Ziti II
Good basic recipe that is fine on its own but allows for personal modifications. As other reviews have commented, go easy on the ricotta; 1-15oz container proves to be plenty.

Fried Plantains
Simple and to the point. Make sure the plantains are nice and ripe.
