About this Cook
I am married to the same guy for 30 years(!) have 3 grown sons and 3 grandbabies. I LOVE family gatherings! It is what I like best! And cooking for everyone. I come from a long line of awsome cooks and started almost beore I can remember. My mother was a custom caterer, sister baked desserts for restaurts. And my grandmother was very good but different way. I have put together 2 cookbooks for charity and my sister and I are writing one now on just potato recipies!
My favorite things to cook
Mexican food which is prominent in our area. And those Southern celebration recipes such as Cornbread dressing and all the trimmings; fried turkies; all kinds of desserts and breads. And last but not least, off beat recipes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Cornbread Dressing and all the holliday trimmings; chili (the REAL stuff,Texas born and bred!); cornbread & pinto beans with pico de gallo (which is "beek of the rooster" in Spanish!) and is a fresh chopped salsa that is simple but terrific; and Chinese Stir Fry. WE love to smoke whole briskets of beef outside and have everyone over the best, I guess.
My cooking triumphs
I learned to make decent chinese because my husband can not eat it at restaurants as he's allergic to MSG; a couple of Fillipino dishes from friends; frying whole turkies a deep fryers outside for hoards of guest! Also I won the blue ribbon for my fudge at the Mills county fair when I was in the 2nd grade! And that's probably what whetted my appetite for cooking to begin with!!
My cooking tragedies
Fallen bread ( didn't proof the yeast first!), fallen cakes for various reasons. And I just plain forgot the mash poatoes last Christmas that I was to take to my mother-in-laws house!

Amazing Bacon-Wrapped Jalapeno Shrimp
Very good! We have made these for years but grill them outside. You can use shrimp like these do or can use chunks of boneless uncooked chicken, too. The smokey flaver gives it a whole new twist of its own.

Chicken Piccata I
Whats this ??!! Piccata with no capers? Not possible. Unless like the guy said, sub a few diced green olives. Just NOT the same.
