Angie's Dad's Best Cabbage Coleslaw

Reviewed: May 30, 2006
Awesome! I only used 3/4 cup of sugar and it still turned out great. One thing, next time I'll be using a little less onion and making sure it's chopped up fine...it was a tad overpowering. It does get better the longer you leave it in the fridge!

Fresh Asparagus Soup

Reviewed: May 26, 2006
This soup is incredible! I too had problems with "strings" even though I used 3/4 cup of veg broth to simmer in for 20 minutes. I thought I had cooked them long enough but I guess I was wrong. All I did though was put the soup through a strainer and it was magnificent! I also used 2% milk. For sure a keeper and is good enough for company.

Chicken Quesadillas

Reviewed: May 15, 2006
These were so good! Instead of a package of fajita mix I used the sauce from Lime Chicken Soft Tacos from this site. I also tossed some fresh mushrooms in with the peppers and onions. Yummy!!

Cowboy Cookie Mix in a Jar

Reviewed: May 10, 2006
I haven't tried these yet but made them for a friend and she gave them rave reviews!! The only problem I had was trying to fit it all in the jar. I used the size it called for but had to leave at least a 1/4 cup of the flour out and I only added 3/4 cup of chocolate chips cause it wouldn't all fit. Maybe if I used mini chocolate chips next time? Anyway it still turned out great and I'll try packing it WAAAAAY tighter next time. A hit!!

Buttermilk Chocolate Cake with Fudge Icing

Reviewed: May 8, 2006
After reading the reviews I decided to make a few small changes and made this a 5 star recipe (well at least to me). I added 1/4 cup of cocoa powder instead of the 3T and an extra tsp of vanilla. Also I didn't have buttermilk so I added a tsp of vinegar to a cup of regular milk. The icing was very yummy even though I burnt it while boiling. I saved it by just pouring off the good stuff and not scaping the bottom of the pot. Also I only beat it for 2 min and didn't have any problems with it being too thick. SUPER DUPER and very moist!

Chocolate Cakes with Liquid Centers

Reviewed: May 2, 2006
My husband and I liked these but the kids just ate the gooey centers! I baked mine for 11 minutes as we didn't want too much "lava" in the middle but still wanted some. I also used semi-sweet chocolate and I'm glad I did. Would make for company!

Baked Dijon Salmon

Reviewed: Apr. 29, 2006
I didn't like this at all! Like a lot of other reviewers I too am wondering how this got such a high rating. I guess it's just personal taste. I usually like my salmon with a maple glaze or BBQ'd with some lemon but I thought I'd try to mix it up a bit and try something new. We ended up scraping all the topping off and adding a toasted sesame dressing to save it. I will not be making again.

Asiago Sun-Dried Tomato Pasta

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2006
Pretty good. I used half cream and half milk to cut back a smidge on fat and didn't use bacon. Also I just used a regular yellow onion since I didn't have red. I followed other reviewers suggestions and added salt, pepper and some red pepper flakes. Yum!

Buttermilk-Herb Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2006
This is a nice soft bread. I must admit I had my reservations when I saw it called for a package of ranch dressing mix since I'm not particularly fond of ranch but was pleasantly surprised with the results. I didn't have buttermilk so I used 1 1/2 tsp of vinegar in regular milk. I missed eating a piece right out of the oven which I'm sure would've been super yummy but it made a GREAT sandwich the next day!

Bob's Mexican Stuffed Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 25, 2006
If I could give this 10 stars I would!! This was a HUGE hit with my family and I even forgot a step (adding salsa to the topping before baking). I only used green pepper cause that was all I had and as per another reviewers suggestion, I used crushed tortilla chips instead of corn flakes. As well instead of packaged fajita seasoning I used Taco Seasoning I from this site. This is a MAJOR keeper...Thanks Bob!!!!

Mocha au Lait Mix

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2006
I myself don't drink coffee but my husband thought it was pretty good. I followed everyone's advice and put everything through my food processor first to grind it up and doubled the amount of sugar. I also found that 2/3 of a cup of water wasn't really much of a drink so I doubled the amount.

My Best Clam Chowder

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2006
My husband LOVED this recipe and it's hard to get a rise out of him when it comes to my cooking. Next time, and there will for sure be a next time, I think I'll just add 1 tablespoon of red wine vinegar and add the rest 1/4 tsp at a time. It was a bit strong for my taste, also maybe just 1/2 cup of flour would be sufficient cause it was very thick. All in all it was an AWESOME recipe! (I also added bacon like others and it was a great addition)

Braided Easter Egg Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2006
I liked this bread. I didn't put any eggs in the braid but did add the two eggs to the dough. Next time I'll only use one since it was a little too eggy for my taste. Also, I ended up adding another 1/2 cup of flour because the dough was very sticky. All in all very yummy and will make again!

Pasta Sauce with Italian Sausage

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2006
This was so good! I have been really hating ready-made sauces lately and wanted to try and make my own. This one was perfect for my family. Like another reviewer, I too added about 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper and also added a full 28oz can of tomatoes. A keeper!

Paprika Pork Chops

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2006
I saw this recipe and wanted to do it but didn't have pork chops on hand so I used it for chicken breasts! I pan fried the chicken with the seasonings then broiled them 3 minutes with the onion and sauerkraut topping. Really good!

Eggs Benedict with Salmon

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2006
I was really disappointed with this recipe. The egg and rye bread part was ok...a quick note, it doesn't take as long to cook the eggs as the recipe suggests...I ended up with hard boiled eggs instead of ones with a nice runny middle (I'm sure that was operator error as I should've watched them closer). The sauce though was not what I wanted at all. The taste of plain yogurt overpowered all the other ingredients. Most hollandaise sauce recipes I've seen call for butter not yogurt but I thought I'd try it anyway. It was super tart and did not suit my family's taste at all, even after adding 1/4 cup of butter. I would do this again but only with a different sauce. (I didn't add the salmon but might try next time when I try a different sauce).

Truck-Stop Buttermilk Pancakes

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2006
This was the first time I've ever made pancakes fom scratch...for some reason I just never really bothered doing it before but boy am I glad I did!!! As per others' advice I added 1 tsp of vanilla extract and then some fresh blueberries to top it off. I didn't have any buttermilk so I added 1 tsp of vinegar per cup of regular milk. Also, I scaled it to 4.8 servings (like another reviewer) and it was more than enough for 4 adults. YUMMY!!

Puff Pastry

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2006
I was surprised by this recipe. I thought it would be more complicated to make puff pastry! I was a bit disappointed with the fact that it didn't bake up as high as I had anticipated but to be fair, after I made the dough, I left it in the fridge for 4 days instead of the one day it calls for...talk about getting sidetracked! Anyway, it was still good and I will make again.
