About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
I love to try new recipes and do lots of experimenting! I generally stay away from, or at least spice up, the usual standbys. I don't use measurements and very rarely follow recipes exactly~I tend to use them as a base.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My husband & I love good food, so cooking has become a really enjoyable hobby for me. Since I never really "have" to cook, it's not a chore. I am very critical of my own cooking, but when I feel like I've succeeded I marvel in it! And, a little wine with dinner always helps!
My cooking triumphs
Real Italian meat sauce (that took lots of practice), risottos, Spanish food and desserts. My biggest accomplishment has been hosting Thanksgiving dinner for the past 2 years.
My cooking tragedies
I don't know that I've ever had anything major go wrong. I think that some people are meant to be good cooks and adapt to it quickly. I've been lucky in that most things come out pretty good, even my first time around.

Pumpkin Bread
Wow! I am always trying new recipes, and never bother to review, but this time I had to! I stuck to the recipe exactly, except that I used 2.5 tbs of pumpkin pie spice instead of what was called for. This was moist and delicious, my quest for the perfect pumpkin bread is over. Planning to make a double batch later this week!

Asian Coconut Rice
This was good. I like a bit more of a coconut flavor though, so I think I'll try adding a bit more next time. Thanks for sharing!

Cranberry Sauce Extraordinaire
I left out the dried fruit, so that may have changed the result, but I thought that this tasted similiar to the simple, 2 ingredient cranberry sauce that I make every year. It was quite a bit of extra work and just didn't seem worth the effort to me. Maybe the dried fruit really makes the difference? It was good cranberry sauce, just nothing special.
