About this Cook
I served six years in the Army repairing the electrical components on a missile system, completed culinary school, have a degree in Electrical Engineering, have raised two teenagers and through it all the kitchen has been my home. I have always loved to cook. As far back as I can remember I used to have dinner ready for my Mom as she came home from working at the auto plant. I love cooking, entertaining, taking pictures of food, talking about food, helping others discover new foods, and experiencing new culinary concepts.
My favorite things to cook
Ribs and chili are my favorite things to cook. I have been working on these recipes for years and have gotten to the point where they are very good. Each takes hours to do and it is a labor of love. My chili takes about six hours on the stove using three dumps at specific times during the process. The ribs get a dry rub and sit in the fridge overnight. They then spend a few hours slow cooking in the oven before being finished on the grill. Mmmmmm!!!!!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving is easily my favorite time to be with family in the kitchen. It's funny that I say that when in reality I end up kicking everyone out of the kitchen. Most of the recipes I use have been handed down from my Grandparents and I have tweaked them over the years.
My cooking triumphs
Ribs!!! Ribs!!! Ribs!!! I have spent countless hours and tried many ingredients but the rub I have created and the process I use is a thing of beauty. I am not a fan of smoke so I do not own a smoker. Some may say that's not real BBQ. I say that until you taste them you have no idea what you have been missing. Let's just say you have to be pretty dang special to get a copy of it!!
My cooking tragedies
The first time I tried to make Cheesecake ... let's just say it could have been used as a paperweight. Definitely not my best outing.

Healthy Chocolate Mug Cake
In the past I have tried several of the time saving recipes in a cup. Unfortunately I did not care for this one at all. The recipe is very easy to follow and the ingredients are what most people have laying around in their kitchen so it is an anyone can do it kind of recipe. I mixed everything in a separate bowl and poured it into a mug. Placed it in the microwave for 2 minutes and it was done. As soon as I opened the microwave door the cake deflated to about half the size it was when it was in the microwave. The taste is where I had the biggest problem. Nobody in my house was fond of this recipe.

Easy Cashew Sea Salt Toffee
This turned out amazing and was done completely in the microwave ... you heard me right! This is a recipe ANYONE can do. It is delicious. I must admit while reading this I was quite skeptical. How could candy made in the microwave be any good. THIS ONE IS!!! One thing to watch out for. When they say to keep an eye on it they are not kidding. Mine took 12 minutes to turn colors but once it does it turns very quickly.

Chicken Fajitas from Mazola(R)
I made the Chicken Fajitas from Mazola(R) yesterday for lunch and they turned out okay. The recipe did not seem like it would have a lot of flavor so I doubled the cumin and added sour cream and avocado to mine. This is a great quick lunchtime meal. It is a very easy recipe to follow and prepare. I felt like I was doing class one from the AllRecipes Cooking School. This is great for knife skills and mise-en-place practice. ?I think in the future I would marinade the chicken for a few hours prior to cooking and grill everything rather than saute it for extra flavor. Grilling the veggies gives them a LOT more flavor! #?AllstarsMazola?
