Blueberry 'S' Pie

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2010
I used fresh blueberries and it was delightful! I sprinkled 2 T sugar & 1 T flour over the berries before I put the topping on (as one reviewer suggested doing if using fresh berries). Be sure the bottom crust is done- the top of mine looked nice and browned, but the bottom still had about 10 mins. to go- I baked for all of 50 mins. Ate warm with ice cream.........dangerously good!

Mound Bars

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2010
YUM! I didn't even bother to mix the coconut & condensed milk- I just sprinkled the coconut over the crust and drizzled the milk over the top. As for the chocolate chips, if you sprinkle them on immediately after the bars come out of the oven, they will melt right on top and then you just spread them around.

Broccoli Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2009
This tasted good...but there's too much milk in it. When I took it out of the oven, the pan tilted a little and milk came draining out of the top. I just tipped it over the sink and drained off the excess, but if I make it again, I would use probably half the milk called for. Sharp cheddar cheese was good in it.

Oatmeal Pancakes II

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2009
Good, easy recipe- I just whisked everything together in a bowl, as I didn't have time to set up the food processor, and it worked just fine.

Dutch Apple Pie with Oatmeal Streusel

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2009
I wasn't so crazy about the spice combo in this- I think the allspice gave it a flavor I wasn't expecting, but that's just a matter of personal taste; it's overall a pretty good recipe.I used about 6 1/2 cups of apples to fill the crust all the way, and added some extra flour to account for that. I also left out the lemon zest- I just wasn't in the mood for it. Note that if you use unsalted butter, you may want to add some salt to the topping(which you will probably notice anyway, when you're eating the topping while you mix it-it is so yummy!).

Taco Seasoning I

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2009
I may have bought my last packet of taco seasoning......this is excellent. Very easy and uses common spices that most people probably have in the pantry. Very good flavor- better, I'd say, than store-bought- and a little spicier too, which was great for us. I made extra so it's handy next time I need some...

SO yummy! This is one of the best recipes ever- it is super quick and easy, and it is good exactly as written. Definitely a keeper.

Whole Wheat Pancakes

Reviewed: Sep. 13, 2009
Good flavor, light and tender, but kinda flat. I think next time I would start with 1 cup of buttermilk and see how the batter looks.

Butterscotch Apple Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 10, 2009
Okay, I'm not much a fan of non-chocolate and cakey dessert stuff, but I've gotta say these were really good. I took the advice of other reviewers and used only 1 cup of sugar & 1 cup of chips; I doubled the amount of apple shavings, omitted the juice and didn't glaze them. They only needed 8 minutes in my oven, and they were perfect- moist and cakey-chewy in a good way. This is a great way to use the abundant apples in the fall.

Tex-Mex Patty Melts

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2009
Very good, but greasy....I might try grilling the burgers next time. I didn't add beer because I didn't have any, and also I skipped grilling the sandwiches in the grease, and instead buttered the outside of the bread and grilled it on a clean griddle. They were very flavorful, definitely worth making again.

Irish Soda Bread V

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2009
I've never had real Irish soda bread, but I made this exactly according to the recipe and it was not so good. It was very heavy, and because of the the grainy, heavy texture it didn't taste too great either. And, it looks nothing like the picture shown- when you use whole wheat flour, the bread is brown....

Puree of Fresh Beets with Horseradish

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2009
Very good flavor, but strong- and like others said, it is kind of a baby food texture. Because of that, I think it's almost more of a condiment than a side (maybe that's what it's supposed to be). I could see this having a place on a gourmet plate of food, you know, when they stack a filet mignon & mashed potatoes and maybe asparagus and some sauce or garnish to look real pretty.....I think this would fit right into a meal like that.

Pizza Dough I

Reviewed: May 30, 2009
This is a super easy and delicious recipe. The best part is no rising is needed, and you'd never know the difference. I use my stand mixer to knead it and it turns out perfect. If you use a regular size round pizza pan, it is pretty thick- I like to use a bigger rectangular sheet.

Awesome Chicken Noodle Soup

Reviewed: May 30, 2009
Time consuming but SO worth it on a cold day (or when someone's ailing!). Don't substitute for the homemade broth- that is what totally makes this soup.I didn't use the lemongrass, but it was amazing without it. I do always seem to need to add extra water, as it keeps evaporating as it cooks....actually I would give this recipe more than 5 stars.

Lemon Cranberry Muffins

Reviewed: May 30, 2009
These are awesome! Very quick and easy.... I think next time I make them I will try real lemon zest and juice in place of the extract for a more "real" lemon flavor. Still they were excellent.

Jamaican Rice

Reviewed: May 26, 2009
Good overall, but I made some adjustments to suit my taste. I love coconut, so I used 1 cup of coconut milk instead of the water, but ended up still needing to add 2/3 cup water in addition to that, as 1 cup of liquid simply was not enough. It needed salt as well. In the end, I thought it was very good- if you like this sort of food.

Crazy Crust Pizza Dough

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2008
I made this with only 1 egg, 1 1/2 cups flour, and a little less milk as several reviewers suggested, and it turned out fine. However, if you're used to yeast pizza crusts, this one is a disappointment. It's not a bad recipe, just a completely different taste.

Potato Chowder Soup I

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2008
This was a little bland, so we added some habanero pepper sauce to induvidual servings and that brightened up the flavor. I still prefer a corn and potato chowder without cheese, though.
