No Ordinary Meatloaf

Reviewed: May 29, 2009
I make a very similar meatloaf, only I add about 1 to 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese to the meat mixture, and usually use French bread crumbs for a great Italian meatloaf. Even my picky husband loves it! I like the change of pace the cornbread makes, though.

Quick and Easy Peach Pie Egg Rolls with Raspberry Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 13, 2009
Not only can you change the cream cheese to fruity cream cheese, you can also change the pie filling to any fruit filling you prefer: I prefer blueberry with blueberry cream cheese. Also, you can use a total of a scant 2 teaspoons of pumpkin pie spice in place of all the other spices, which is what pumpkin pie spice IS, anyway. I agree, wonton wrappers are best, and leftovers are not that great unless you reheat them in hot oil, which crisps them back up and is delicious but not very healthy. I also sprinkle them with powdered sugar instead of a dipping sauce.

Tequila Sunrise (Cuervo Sunrise)

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2008
This delicious drink is my husband's favorite! However, a true "Sunrise" does NOT get mixed: it gets its sunrise look by gently pouring grenadine down the inside of the glass filled with orange juice & tequila; being heavier, it settles on the bottom until the drinker mixes it.

Tourtiers (French Pork Pie)

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2006
Our family makes Tourtiere pie every year, too, but our recipe uses 1/2-2/3 hamburg, and the rest pork. And we cook it up with a chopped onion instead of celery, which I think tastes even better. All in all, this is a great and easy recipe, and is delicious hot out of the oven, or cold out of the fridge the next day! Yum!

German Rouladen

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2006
We learned to make Rouladen while living in Germany. I was taught this basic recipe, only my German friend uses julienned carrots, and no bacon. We browned the rolls, then baked in beef gravy, and served it with spaetzle (homemade German noodles). Delicious!

Firehouse Clam Bake New England Style

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2006
This makes for a great day at the beach! We used less variety (no sweet potatoes, or sausage or bratworst, or mussels, for example) but the flavor of the fresh-cooked meal brings you to heaven's gates! And the aroma is indescribable! Any combination of seafood and roastable vegetables works, or even just clams, lobsters, and corn.

Dennie's Fresh Lobster Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2006
Yessssss!! The perfect lobster salad, like the ones at my favorite childhood haunts in Maine. Only difference I'd make is to use white pepper instead of black, or omit entirely. And for the perfect lobster roll, serve in a toasted hotdog roll with a lettuce leaf!

Shipwreck Stew

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2005
We used to make this recipe over a campfire. However, since one son is allergic to kidney beans, we added whole kernel corn instead. Delicious!

Shrimp Avocado Pasta Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2005
This salad is great! I don't like pasta in salads, so substituted couscous, will also try with cold cooked rice. Great!

Red Flannel Hash

My Grampa used to make this, adding finely shredded leftover roast beef to the hash to make a colorful, delicious meal. Quick, easy, and delicious!

Lobster Stew

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2005
I lived in Maine for my first 22 years, and this is almost exactly the recipe my Grandfather made every weekend during lobster season! He usually used milk and a can of evaporated milk, which tastes pretty close to half-and-half but has less fat. Yummmmm!

Jagerschnitzel

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2004
I also remember Jagerschnitzel as having a thinner, browner sauce, and don't remember sour cream in it. Otherwise, it brought me right back to the years we lived in Germany: Jagerschnitzel was what I always ordered, with spaetzle, and celery root salad. Delicious!!!

Fried Ice Cream

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2004
This recipe is great! i used the extra cinnamon, too, and topped it like my fave restaurant: caramel sauce, strawberry sauce, and whipped cream. This is definitely a keeper, for sure!!
