Dijon Grilled Pork Chops

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2007
I followed this recipe as is - and the marinade/baste really didn't "stick to" the chops as much as I would have liked. There was just a hint of flavor. I am not sure what could have made it better, though. I tasted the marinade on it's own - and it was very good. Just wish I could have tasted it more on the meat! I would probably not make this again because we found it to be somewhat boring.

Lime Chicken Soft Tacos

Super good. Loved the citrus flavor of this chicken. Easy to prepare and my family gobbled them up. Couldn't ask for more! We followed the recipe as written.

Grilled Buffalo Wings

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2007
AWESOME! I had no idea that wings could be so good off the grill. This recipe is definitely a keeper - and we can't wait to make them again. Perfectly written instructions - and incredible as is. You must try this one.

Spanish Rice II

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2007
This was just OK for us. We weren't jumping up and down over it. For me, I think it was the chili powder that I didn't like tasting. I love spicy food (I pour habanero sauce over just about everything), but chili powder is one of those spices that I don't care for outside of - well, chili. Because of the flavor - not the heat. So, if you love chili powder - this recipe is probably a good choice.

Holuski

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2007
I love this classic Czech dish. So simple, cheap and comforting. However, I do agree that you should definitely sauté the cabbage along with the onion instead of steaming it separately. Also, the addition of a dollop of sour cream can't be beat. For a heartier dish with additional flavor, we also love to add some sliced kielbasa to sauté in with the onion and cabbage.

Deviled Eggs

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2007
I had to try this a few times until I got it to what I was looking for. I have a good relish/horseradish recipe - so I was wanting a good classic (creamy, sweet & tangy) recipe. For 12 eggs (heck, if you are going to do all of this work - you might as well make a bunch of them!) I used 1/2 cup regular mayonnaise, 1 tsp. ground mustard (instead of prepared), 2 tsp. sugar, 2 tsp. apple cider vinegar (instead of white), 1/8 tsp. salt, and paprika for garnish. Perfecto! Tip: the day before you make them, place the eggs on their side within the carton (carton lid will have to remain open) so that all of the yolks will center and make nice thick whites. Also, the older the eggs are - the easier they are to peel. Fresh eggs are the hardest to peel!

BBQ Pork for Sandwiches

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2007
Awesome recipe! So quick to put together, too. Just what I was looking for. Be sure to use a brand/flavor of barbecue sauce that you are familiar with and like. I tried something new - and I was missing the honey from my regular brand. Thanks for sharing this! Will make again and again.

Creamy Banana Lettuce Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2007
Yum! Couldn't be better. I was trying to find a recipe for the simple banana salad my grandmother used to make - consisting of only lettuce, bananas, sugar and mayonnaise with paprika sprinkled on top (I think that's it). But, I found this one instead and couldn't be happier. It makes a much prettier presentation - and the strawberries really add some nice tang. Excellent!

Daria's Slow Cooker Beef Stroganoff

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2007
Good base recipe - but I had to change so many things to make it perfect (and succeeded after several tries). Therefore, can only give it 3 stars. I used beef stew meat instead of top round steak, a whole onion instead of half, 8 ounces of fresh mushrooms instead of canned, 2 cloves of garlic instead of 1, a tablespoon of worcestershire sauce instead of just a teaspoon, 1/2 cup of red wine instead of 1/4 cup of white wine and 1/4 cup of water, a tablespoon of cornstarch in addition to the flour, just 8 ounces of sour cream instead of 16, and added 4 ounces of cream cheese. I followed the same directions, except adding the fresh mushrooms at the end for just the last hour of cooking. So, after all of those changes - it has become THE Stroganoff recipe for our family!

Fajita Marinade I

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2007
This was decent - but not wonderful. I felt that the water may have diluted the marinade too much. The meat didn't really have a lot of flavor - even after marinating overnight. I think there are some good things about this recipe - but it definitely needs some tweaking. I am going to try substituting tequila for the water and adding some fresh chopped cilantro and brown sugar. Maybe some cumin, too.

Grilled Chicken with Herbs

Superb marinade for chicken. After sitting overnight, my husband grilled the breasts to perfection. They really explode with flavor. The combination of herbs is just right and leaves a memorable impression. Loved it!

Dana's Taco Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2007
Very tasty! I was actually pleasantly surprised at how good it was. The lentils really add a nice texture to the ground turkey - along with a more interesting flavor. The only thing I added was some shredded cheese (Mexican blend) - which I thought was needed. Great recipe!

Flavorful Beef Stir-Fry

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2007
This was pretty good. Not spectacular - but very good. It had the "expected" stir fry flavor to it. And, it felt really heathly eating it! Chock full of vegetables. My only complaint was the time it took to prepare - I wasn't in the mood this busy weekday night. But, the family (even the kiddos) gobbled it up and it was a very satisfying meal.

Gerry's Chicken Enchiladas

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2007
There really isn't anything wrong with the taste of this recipe - it is very good. My husband and I just found it to be more time consuming than we would have liked. There are other enchilada recipes we have tried that we like just as well - yet take less time. We've got two small kids and every night is a mad rush to get dinner on the table!

Louisiana Beef Stew

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2007
Sorry, this just did not work out for me. I found the stew to be too thick - and way too rich and dense. The flavors were really overpowering. It sounded interesting - but my family didn't care for it.

Kielbasa Cabbage Skillet

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2007
This was really simple and good. Just what I expected - and hubby said "it's a keeper". Have to give it 4 stars because I did mix in a package of cooked egg noodles. Makes it much more substantial. Thanks for the great recipe!

Lima and Navy Bean and Ham Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2006
Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I prefer the standard navy bean soup to put my ham bone to use. I thought I'd try something different this time... big mistake. This had way too much going on - as well as many unnecessary ingredients (like green onions). The flavors were much too strong.

Creamy Coconut Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2006
I made this cake twice - once as written - and once with only the cream of coconut. My family preferred the omission of the sweetened condensed milk. Thus the 4 stars instead of five. Otherwise, a delicious recipe.
