Slow Cooker Chicken Taco Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 18, 2014
This is my "go to" recipe when I don't have a lot of time to spend hovering over the stove. I've served this soup to company and everyone raves about how good it is. The toppings (crushed tortilla chips, onions, cilantro, cheese, avocado) really kick it up a notch.

Heather's Cilantro, Black Bean, and Corn Salsa

Reviewed: Feb. 18, 2014
I made this almost exactly as written except I didn't have a can of white corn so omitted the extra can. This is really good. Thank you for submitting it.

Party Punch VI

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2012
I made this for a baby shower and everyone raved about how good it was. Good thing I made a double batch because it was gone in no time. WARNING: make sure everything including the punch bowl is well chilled and make the punch 10 minutes ahead of when you want to serve it because once you pour the carbonated soda in it turns to foam for a few minutes. Stir every few minutes so the foam dissipates and you will have a delicious (and drinkable) punch.

Perfect Turkey

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2011
Oh Yesssss!!! I've roasted many turkeys and always like to try a new recipe, but I don't think I will ever roast a turkey any other way than this. We followed the directions and roasted a 13 lb. turkey on a rack in a roasting pan breast-side down and turned it 2/3 way through per directions while paying close attention to the internal temperature of the thigh with a meat thermometer. The only thing I did differently was roast it at 325. Never have I had such moist and tender breast meat. And because it's breast-side down, no need to baste. It's self-basting! I was a rock star at Thanksgiving this year!!!

Lemon Pie II

Reviewed: Feb. 19, 2012
If you are looking for something easy and delicious this is it! I made a homemade graham cracker crust, baked and then chilled and added the filling. We love lemons so I juiced three but it was probably more than the 1/3 cup called for in the recipe. I just kept tasting the filling and then adding more to our taste. This pie is really yummy.

Vegan Bean Taco Filling

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2012
I made this last night for dinner and it was really yummy. I'm glad I saved the drained bean juice because I had to add that back in along with some water and covered the pot and let it simmer for 10 minutes or so for the flavors the meld. I fried my taco shells until crispy and had cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, olives and salsa as add-ons. This recipe is a keeper. Thanks for posting.

Italian Sausage Soup

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2012
My tummy is happy after trying this soup. My husband loved it too. I didn't have spinach, so I used kale and added it with the carrots because it takes longer to cook than spinach. Very good. Thank you for posting this recipe.

Janet's Rich Banana Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2012
I give this recipe five stars for deliciousness with some changes based on other's reviews. I chose this recipe over the other banana bread recipes because others called for 3 cups of sugar and 4 1/2 cups of flour and I only wanted one loaf!! So I made this recipe without adding any nuts and also added one extra banana (3 total). I mashed the bananas based on other's recommendations. I also added a crumb topping before baking of 1/3 c packed brown sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, 1 teaspoon cinnamon and 1 tablespoon butter. It took an extra 20 minutes to bake (maybe because I added an extra banana??) and I had to tent it with foil the last 1/2 hour because the topping was getting too dark. But it was worth the wait. Very yummy. Thank you.

Red Skinned Potato Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2014
I just made this potato salad recipe for a BBQ party and everyone loved it, but to me the bacon was "chewy" (even though it was crisp when I crumbled it and added it that same day). Also 2 lbs. of potatoes was not enough, I used 4 lbs. and where I live in SoCal bacon doesn't come in 1 lb. packs, it comes in 12 ounce packs(3/4 lb.)so that's what I used instead. When recipes call for "1 onion" they should say instead 1/4 cup, 1/2 cup (or whatever) because onions can differ in size by quite a bit. Anyway cooking is all about making it your own and tasting as you go, so I did, and it was good.

Creamy Caramel Flan

Reviewed: Aug. 8, 2011
I'll give this recipe two stars only because it wasn't the worst thing I've ever tasted. It looked easy so I thought I'd give it a try for a small dinner party. It took me two tries to make the melted sugar layer, by finally taking the advise of another reviewer who suggested putting the baking pan in the oven for a few minutes so that the sugar doesn't harden as soon as it touches the pan. That worked much better. Then I followed the directions exactly. The next day I unmolded the flan and it looked gorgeous, but everyone who tasted it said it was too heavy or too much like cheesecake and the day after that it seemed even more thick and dense. Next time I will stick with a different recipe that is more like traditional flan, lighter and more custard like. If the name of the recipe was "Cheesecake Flan", then it would make more sense to me.
