About this Cook
I am a southern girl to the core. I grew up with my mother and grandmother cooking dinner together almost nightly. Unfortunately, I never learned to cook with them and am trying to teach myself. That has been met with some great success and many cooking messes. But I love it and find it very relaxing. Now... If I could just find someone else to clean those dishes...
My favorite things to cook
Anything with pasta... I'm a sucker for a good alfredo sauce, but I love most any good pasta sauce as long as it doesnt have mushrooms.
My favorite family cooking traditions
The holidays are always a special time of cooking memories for me. Growing up, my Grandmother lived with my parents and me. When I was young, my mother and Grandmother would cook often during the holidays, whether yummy casseroles, cheese straws, fruit cakes (which I have never been fond of, though I love the smell of them), and other Christmas goodies.
My cooking tragedies
One evening I decide to cook for my parents, my grandmother, and my boyfriend. I made Garlic Chicken Rollups and wanted to fix broccoli for a side. I looked at different broccoli recipes on the site and found one that sounded easy and yummy. The recipe called for sauteeing the broccoli in olive oil and sprinkling red pepper. In my inexperience, I thought the red pepper was just for color, not for flavor. Oops! My mother and grandmother nearly choked on it when they took a bite of broccoli and could not handle the spiciness... I felt just awful!!!

Crunchy Chicken Casserole
This casserole was pretty good, but mine turned out a bit dry. I would definitely recommend seasoning the chicken as you cook it before putting it in the casserole. It was a bit bland. Also, I cut the mayonnaise in half. Next time, I'll use another can of cream of chicken soup and add some broccoli.

Buckeye Balls II
These are always delicious! I made these for several tailgates this year, and though the chocolate melted in the southern heat, they were still gone by gametime!

Homemade Mac and Cheese
I LOVED this recipe! I tend to be picky about my mac and cheese, and this one was awesome. It reminded me a lot of the macaroni and cheese served at a local steakhouse, McKendricks, that is my favorite. For the 3 cups milk, I used whole milk (I only use whole for cooking) to give it a richer taste. Also, I used 1 sleeve of ritz crackers and crumbled them for the top, to give it a little more crunch. My mother even borrowed the recipe for our Thanksgiving instead of her usual mac and cheese casserole! It was a big hit!
