Taco Seasoning I

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2012
I'm only giving this 4 stars because I had to fool around with different types of chilis to get the best flavour. I use Dried Ancho Chilies that I get at a local Mexican grocery store. Using them this recipe is fantastic!!!! I also use about 1/8 tsp cayenne powder instead of the hot pepper flakes, just feel it mixes in better that way. Love this recipe - thanks for posting!!!

Thought I should add a picture. This is super easy to make and freezes well too.

Speculaas

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2009
These did not taste like speculaas at all to me, and I was born and raised into a dutch family, so I definitely have a lot of personal experience!! They tasted like a bland sugar cookie to me, with a hint of spice. They definitely need more zip and perhaps some molasses as well to intensify the flavour. Just throwing ideas out there. Not sure if I will bother trying to make these again, even with alterations, sorry. My kids ate one and didn't ask for more, which is a pretty strong statement.

Pizza Dough I

Reviewed: Sep. 10, 2008
This recipe is pretty good for what it is: a quick, no rise pizza crust. In a pinch I'd use it again, but not for a pizza I was planning ahead for. For that I'd use a 'regular' style pizza dough to get an airy, puffy crust. This crust was pretty flat and solid and got quite hard on the edges. However, I gave it 4 stars because I actually didn't expect it to be as good as it turned out to be. Thanks for posting!

Summer Lamb Kabobs

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2008
The marinade was great - just totally overpowered the lamb. When I eat lamb I want to taste the lamb especially considering the cost of lamb. Perhaps if I just brushed it over the lamb on the grill instead of marinating it that would have been better. But I don't think I would waste more lamb on this recipe, sorry.

Playgroup Granola Bars

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2008
These are not bad, but not great. The batter was so sticky and wet I would not reccommend mixing it by hand. I added semi-sweet chocolate chips instead of raisins. Also, even by reducing the sugar to 1/3 cup they are still too sweet. You could probably omit the sugar altogether and just use the sweetness of the honey. Or go 1/3 cup sugar and 1/4 cup honey. The bars are also 'cakey' not really like a granola bar. I think I will try these again, but use less flour and omit the sugar. On the plus side, my kids really like them.

Sourdough Starter IV

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2008
Well, this starter did not work for me!! At the start of day 3 the starter was turning a reddish colour, which I learned is not a good thing. The recipe did not specify to cool off the potato water before adding the other ingredients so perhaps my water was too hot to start with. If anyone knows what I did wrong, please let me know!! Thanks.

Favorite Corn Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2008
This cornbread is awesome! I baked in muffin tins instead of a 9x9" pan and they took 10 minutes at 400 degrees (convection bake) I probably could have taken them out at 9 min. They were not dry at all - overcooking would make them dry so keep an eye on them. They were also plenty sweet. Personally I would not add sugar to these. Thanks for the recipe, I will definitely make it again!

Cherry Pie III

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2007
This was my first 'from scratch' cherry pie and I was quite pleased with the results. I only gave it 4 stars because the filling was a bit too gelatinous for my liking. We ate it over 3-4 days and it just got more firm as the days went by. Next time I make this recipe I will reduce the amount of cornstarch maybe by a third. Pie itself was very delicious though! Thanks for posting.

Banana Crumb Muffins

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2007
These muffins are awesome!! The only thing I've changed is using 1 cup all purpose flour and 1/2 cup whole wheat flour. Just to add a bit more fibre to them. Great recipe, thanks!

The Best Unbaked Cherry Cheesecake Ever

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2007
I gave this recipe only 3 stars because the crust didn't hold together. I also added 4 oz of cream cheese to the filling for a total of 12 oz. I wanted a lot of cream cheese flavour and I'm glad I added the extra - it would have been softer and less flavourful without. I would definitely make this again with some changes.

Rich Chocolate Brownies

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2007
Awesome! These brownies are dense, moist and delicious. I didn't use the frosting - they are definitely chocolatey and sweet enough without. I figure I can save a few calories this way too! Thanks for posting this great recipe.

Delicious Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2007
These peanut butter cookies are the best! They are not bland at all and have a great peanut butter flavour. Could depend on what brand you use? I use Kraft extra creamy for these cookies. The cookies are nice and moist and stay that way even when cooled. Personally I wouldn't change a thing about this recipe! Thanks for posting.

Beef Samosas

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2007
Delicious! These are time consuming, but worth it! They freeze really well after deep frying, so you can make a big batch and freeze them. The only thing we changed was using Wonton wrappers instead of phyllo, only because we're not crazy about phyllo dough - too crispy and papery. We eat them with plum sauce, very tasty. Thanks for sharing this recipe!

Best Ever Meatloaf II

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2007
This meatloaf is great. Beats my mom's meatloaf hands down - no offense mom! I've altered this recipe a bit. I use breadcrumbs instead of the crackers and add in 1/2 cup salsa, 1 1/2 tbsp. soy sauce and salt and pepper to taste. This is an awesome tex-mex style meatloaf, very unique! Thanks!

Buttermilk Pancakes II

Fantastic pancakes! These are a favourite in our house and I make no other! My eldest son, who's very picky, loves these too - which says something. Why anyone would make pancakes from a box is beyond me - these are so easy and so delicious! Thanks!

This recipe was really good. Loved the fact that it's packed with fibre and low in calories. The only thing I changed was using 2 cloves of garlic instead of 1. Thanks for posting!
