Creamy Butternut Squash Casserole

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2015
This was my first time eating butternut squash in, and I loved it! I did start cooking the squash first, before adding the onions, because I thought it would take a little longer to get the squash tender. I followed the rest of the recipe exactly as it was, and I will definitely make this again.

Caramelized Turnips

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2015
Outstanding! Made with beef broth and used double than what the recipe calls for so turnips could cook down longer and soften more. Even people who thought they didn't like turnips loved the dish.

Stewed Cabbage

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2015
I really enjoyed this! I used a full head of cabbage, added an additional stalk of celery, and used 3 cloves garlic. After reading other reviews, I also added some thyme and oregano, 1/2 pkg real bacon pieces, and 1/2 cup of beef broth to the mixture while simmering. Covered, I cooked it for an hour, stirring occasionally.

Mashed Potato, Rutabaga, and Parsnip Casserole with Caramelized Onions

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2014
I love this dish, although I did not have any parsnips on hand. I added a little bit of extra rutabaga, which is now one of my favorite veggies.

Parsnip and Carrot Puree

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2014
This was okay for me. I added a little nutmeg like other reviewers suggested. I had never eaten parsnip before, and I found it to have an unusual taste. Not bad, just different. I didn't have an immersion blender, so mine was chunky.

Creamy Potato Lasagna

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2014
I absolutely loved this dish! Potatoes also happen to be my favorite food. Since I don't like broccoli, I substituted chopped spinach like other reviewers. I used a little less Swiss cheese to save a few calories. I only did two layers because that's just easier and doesn't affect the taste. Because some reviewer's mentioned bacon, I choose to use the new Prego Alfredo sauce flavored with savory bacon and still used the ham as my meat. I honestly think I could eat this every single night!

Cheesy Rutabaga Bake

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2014
This was my first time eating or cooking rutabaga. It was absolutely delicious! I added a little bit more garlic but kept the rest of the recipe the same. I have also learned that dicing rutabaga is one of the best workouts you could ever do--they're hard to cut!!

Brisket Marinade

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2014
Really good! I also added a little bit of kitchen bouquet, and Cajun Power garlic sauce, which is something I have readily available in Louisiana. After marinating, I threw my brisket in a crockpot because it was a small portion that I was cooking it to "top" some baked potatoes. I just halved the recipe since I had less beef.

Awesome Greens and Beans

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2014
This was my first time eating or cooking turnip greens. I listened to other users, and decided to sauté onions and garlic to add to the recipe. I sautéed them on the side in some margarine, along with the stems from the greens. I did not want to throw those away, but know from cooking kale, that the stems take more cooking time. I did not use oil to brown my sausage, as sausage has plenty of fat already in it. When it came time to add the tomatoes and other ingredients, I added my sautéed onion mixture. I also simmered this dish for 30 minutes total, stirring occasionally. It was delicious!

Cheesy Chicken and Yellow Rice

Reviewed: May 21, 2014
I used one can of Rotel instead of the regular tomatoes. I also added one can of black beans into my chicken and veggie mixture. When I combined everything at the end, I finished it in a 9 x 13 baking dish instead of on the stove. I sprinkled the cheese on top and baked it for 20 minutes at 350°. Loved it!

Potatoes Supreme

Reviewed: May 10, 2014
I wanted to turn this into a one dish meal. I did everything the regular recipe calls for, and also added lots of salt and pepper, and 1/2 lb each of shredded cooked chicken and diced ham. I also added one can each of drained green peas and drained French style green beans. I absolutely loved it and will definitely make again!

Potato Lasagna

Reviewed: May 8, 2014
Here are my changes: I used thinly sliced russet potatoes, frozen sliced carrots (thawed), and I added a layer of ground beef and Italian sausage. I did not have Gouda cheese, so I added a little bit of grated Parmesan. I baked the dish at 400° for one hour and 20 minutes, and then uncovered and baked at 350° for 10 minutes more. I thought it was amazing and will definitely make again!

Sally's Spinach Mashed Potatoes

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2014
After reading other reviews, I also decided to add some bacon bits, green onions, and garlic. I also added some onion powder. This was delicious! I think this would be a great way to give some extra veggies to your kids, without compromising the taste of the potatoes.
