I am just a chick who loves to be herself no matter what others might think. I have been Diabetic for about 11 years now. It has been a rough road, but one that I have learned from alot. I enjoy taking photographs of the world and people around. A picture can tell many stories, and I love to capture that. I love cooking. I have grown up mostly around Amish type cooking and what my family calls poor man's food. But my food interests don't just stop there. I am interested in trying all different types of foods, whether it be a different technique, cuisine or what have you. I believe cooking is a form of art and that you can express yourself through it. But most important, I believe that food has always brought most families together and anything that does that is something great and special.
My favorite things to cook
I haven't really cooked alot so far, but I have baked alot. And I love it. Cakes, cookies, pies, etc. I love it all. I also like to cook Chicken Corn Soup, Roasts, Ham & Green Bean soup and Mashed potatoes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
One tradition we have has to do with Ham & Green Bean soup. When we get our bowls of it ready, we also have to have a couple pieces of peanut butter bread so when can dip it in our soup broth. Most people find it strange or even gross, but we love it.
My cooking triumphs
The first time I made a roast. I had to make gravy using the drippings in the crock-pot from the roast and do it with flour. I was always told by people that making gravy was tricky, even hard, and especially with flour. But I gave it a try. And to my surprise as well as my mother's, I made the most delicious gravy that we had even tasted. I felt proud of that.
My cooking tragedies
The only one I can think of is when I tried to bake a cake for the first time and it ended up rising out of the pan and spilling all over the inside of the oven. How horrible that mess was!
