Home-Style Scalloped Potatoes

Reviewed: Aug. 31, 2008
Finally good old fashioned scalloped potatoes like Nana used to make. The only change I made was add diced onions, one softball size. I put them in just about everything, our favorite vegetable!

Balsamic Pea Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 26, 2008
Way back in my teens I used to be a nanny for a little two year old. Her mom showed me how to make this without the balsomic and feta, she used cubed American. That little girl ate this salad like no one's business. I made it for her all the time. Sometime using canned peas because that was what she wanted for lunch. She loved it with chopped pickles in it too.

Slow Cooker German-Style Pork Roast with Sauerkraut and Potatoes

Reviewed: May 12, 2008
I have been making this the exact same way for years and always comes out great. Point is to make sure that the pork stays in the "juice." I always put my roast in frozen so maybe that makes the extra liquid needed to keep the pork moist. My family loves this. Sometimes we even add potatoes to the slow cooker.

Knoephla, Potatoes and Sauerkraut

Reviewed: May 12, 2008
This recipe was good just the way it is. Wanted to add my Nana (50ish yrs. ago) made these when we were children, called them "potato dumplings". We covered them in poppyseed, butter, sugar & cinnamon.

Fried Apples

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2008
I'll stay with my grandmother's old tried and true. She used to make these every Sunday morning with biscuits. The maple syrup does something to the apples that just throws the taste off. Never fry apples in oil! Always fry apples in butter! We also add raisins and dry cranberries. The sweet part is brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg with just a teaspoon of salt.

I added some sour cream just before serving and it's like a mock piergori. We have also made this with sliced keilbasa in it.

I have a question about this recipe. What advantage is the tofu? You're using 2 lbs. of meat so why?

Frogmore Stew

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2007
As a New Englander, we make this over open fire in large pots. We also add clams and/or mussels and sweet potatoes. If you can find some seaweed, we layer it up the pot..

Mixed Fruit Crisp

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2007
Excellent! My family loved this. I used 2 little packs of instant Raisin and Spice oatmeal instead of plain oats and it came out just as wonderful. A scoop of vanilla ice cream and it was heaven.
