Halibut with Rice Wine

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2006
We made this for ten people last night and it was a hit. I would serve the sauce at a warmer temperature next time. The flavors were a perfect compliment to halibut. We also had two pieces of sea bass with the halibut and they were excellent.

I added a little more water and a little less sugar (after reading the reviews) and it came out perfectly. Nice flavor!

We used broccolini instead of green beans and they were a hit.

Gramma's Party Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2006
I'm sorry, but I did follow this recipe exactly and it was not too good. It tasted more like a pre-packaged cake than a homemade recipe from grandma to me, though others seem to have enjoyed it.

Chicken Biryani

Reviewed: May 10, 2007
Even with all the spices, it was slightly bland in my opinion, but better the second day.

Simple Turkey Chili

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2008
I have repeated this recipe dozens of times; it is well loved and appreciated by our friends and family. I make this all-organic and it is excellent! I usually add frozen corn (that has been cooked and drained) and I also use vegetable broth instead of water, which I highly recommend. We tend to like it less soupy, so I add an extra can of beans and an extra 1/2 can of crushed tomatoes. I back off on the chili powder a touch, so people can spice it up to their liking.

Curried Squash Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2008
Wow, this was really yummy and flavorful. I think I may have added a bit more squash (I made this for ten servings) and next time, I might try yellow curry instead of the red I had on hand. I also added roasted pine nuts as a topping, which worked very well. This soup is very yummy and comforting in winter!

Vegan Split Pea Soup I

Reviewed: Feb. 19, 2008
I loved the addition of barley - excellent! I didn't have any potatoes on hand, but the barley more than compensated. I used organic vegetable broth instead of water and made everything else as written. This soup turned out excellent - even for the two kids who didn't want to try it. They loved it and so did I.

Pat's Potato Salad

Reviewed: May 31, 2008
Great recipe to make the day before your guests come. It was a hit and our guests mentioned that they liked that it differed from typical potato salads! I added celery for crunch.

Momma's Sloppy Joes

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2008
definitely add the onion (I used a whole one) and the dashes of worchestershire. also, i did not use sugar and it was very sweet with a combo of agave nectar-sweetened organic ketchup and regular hines (we had just enough for one cup when we combined the last of the two!). i used ground turkey. yum!

Baked Potato Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2008
I've made it twice - once with the cream, once without; both times with vegetable stock instead of chicken stock; both times without the bacon (I tried turkey bacon on the first attempt, but it didn't work so I started over without it). It is excellent. Everyone I made it for loved it. I agree with other reviewers that it is heavy on the basil, so I would cut it in half. It is a very yummy, very easy soup which has a sophisticated taste! It has even more of a kick without the cream, but it was really, really good as a non-dairy, vegetarian soup.

My husband LOVED it and I thought it was terrific too. I did add black beans and that was really nice. Overall, a really palatable flavor.
