Born and raised in Neptune, NJ. As an African-American man, I wasn't expected to cook or learn how to cook. My mom was a southern woman and learned to deep fry everything. :-) Since moving out on my own, have discovered cookbooks and like to try different things.
My favorite things to cook
In my 20's my favorite's were marinated steak, spagetti and italian meals. Lately I've shifted to Asian, especially Filipino.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Southern food - fried everything. Also easy meals out of boxes. I've learned to cook my son's favorite meals to avoid the expense of restaurants (especially skewered satay chicken).
My cooking triumphs
My Filipino night that is often requested (chicken adobo, shanghai lumpia and pancit bihon).
My cooking tragedies
My ex-wife would watch everything I did in the kitchen and would make little comments that annoyed me to no end. One day I made spagetti and was thrown off my game so much I wrecked the meal. It was really bad. Now I don't allow people in the kitchen while I cook.
