Cherry Pound Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2007
I loved this cake! The only thing I changed was to use almond extract in place of the vanilla. It only took an hour, and it was moist and delicious! I also made the glaze as suggested in another review using the cherry juice and icing sugar, and more almond extract. Everyone at work who tried it loved it! This recipe will definitely be added to my annual Xmas baking! ***Edit: I also tried this recipe using Splenda and it did not turn out well - the consistency of the dough was different, and it did not rise well at all, which affected the end product. It came out very heavy and didn't have a very good texture. I ended up throwing out almost all of it. Next time I make it I'll definitely stick with the sugar!

Chocolate Brittle Surprise

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2007
This recipe is great! I made 3 batches at Xmas. I've found that 17-20 mins can be too long and result in a burnt taste in spots, so I cook it for 10-13 minutes. Also, I have mixed in a cup of milk choc. chips with a cup of semisweet for a smoother chocolate taste, which has worked well also.

German Rouladen

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2014
This recipe is very close to the one my mom made. This was the first time my husband and his friend had Rouladen, and they both loved it. I followed the ingredients quite closely, but did make a couple changes in how I prepared it: 1. I pre-bought rouladen cut steaks from the butcher. 2. I minced the onion and 1/2 a jar of pickles (1 jar seemed way too much) and diced the bacon, and mixed it all in one bowl. 3. I added Dijon mustard to the filling until it was relatively creamy, then spread it evenly on each piece of beef. 4. I added reduced salt beef broth instead of beef cubes and water, and baked them for about 90 minutes at 325. I then removed them from the pan and made a gravy with the juices, then served them with the gravy over the rolls.

Tomatillo Salsa Verde

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2011
I followed the advice of one of the other posters and added lime juice, but found this was still missing something. I added tablespoon of a mild salsa spice which really brought the flavors more into what I was looking for. I also omitted the water and blended the ingredients before boiling, it was a perfect consistency!

Homemade Flour Tortillas

Reviewed: Jul. 1, 2014
These were pretty easy, and had great texture and taste. I made these because I always end up throwing away half the package of bought tortillas, and by making them myself I can control what goes in them. Will make again.

Shredded Brussels Sprouts

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2013
I substituted the pine nuts with pecans and quartered them instead of shredding, but otherwise followed the recipe. Everyone liked this, but next time I'd try soaking the brussel sprouts in salt water as another reviewer suggested, as I still found them to have a slight bitter taste.

Foolproof Rib Roast

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2010
Excellent recipe - worked great for my 5.5lb Rib Roast! After the 3 hours with the oven off I opened the oven and put in potatoes for baking (I pre-cooked them slightly in the microwave first). This did not affect my roast in the least as after 3 hours there is almost no heat left in the oven.

Soft Gingersnaps

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2009
This recipe is fantastic! With one batch, I tried waiting for the cookies to "crack" on top before removing from the oven as one reviewer suggested - however, these cookies didn't turn out soft and were a bit burnt on the bottom. They do need to be puffy when you take them out. If you over bake them they won't be soft! I also found that my aluminum sheet baked them slower than my teflon coated cookie sheet, so don't forget to take this into consideration when baking!

This recipe is very quick and easy - and tasty! I used milk chocolate chips, and they turned out great. I store them in the freezer and take them out as I need.

Cream of Asparagus Soup I

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2015
Loved this soup - quick and easy. Used chicken broth instead of water/boullion, skipped the cream, and saved the asparagus tips to put in after pureeing. Will definitely make this again.

Best Bread Machine Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2015
This was the bread recipe I made after getting a breadmaker. The first was very dense. This one was light and tall, will definitely make this one again. I used 1 1/2 tsp salt and set my maker to 1 1/2lb loaf. I used regular active yeast and not instant or breadmaker yeast. I also used sunflower oil. Thanks for a great recipe!

Layered Seafood Dip

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2014
I added an Herb & Garlic seasoning in the cream cheese mixture, and made my own seafood sauce with ketchup, horseradish and worcestershire. I chopped up the shrimp into small pieces, and omitted the crab as I didn't have any in the house. It was a hit, everyone loved it.

Slow Cooker Chicken Taco Soup

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2013
I made this in the morning and left it for about 8 hours while I was at work. Made minor substitutions - one large can of diced tomatoes (no chilis) and frozen corn. It turned out really good - but was more stew-like than a soup. It made a large oval crock pot, Flavor was fantastic, I felt that the cilantro really made the dish. Tasted really good the second day as well. Served with taco chips, shredded cheese and sour cream, everyone liked it!

Scalloped Potatoes and Onions

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2009
This recipe was pretty quick, easy and had good flavor. The only thing I'd do different next time is to add some cheddar cheese or velveeta.
