S'more Brownies

Reviewed: Jun. 2, 2003
Wow...what a mess. I read every review, and still it disappointed. Way too rich, didn't taste like s'mores at all, and the marshmallows looked awful, even after cooled and cut. The choc chips idea instead of choc bar sure worked, however. Some things shouldn't be combined....maybe if the base was something less rich than a brownie....better luck next time.

Old-Fashioned Pink Lemonade

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2004
Yum!!! This is my first review on the site, though I've tried hundreds of recipes. I thought the lemonade a little sweet. Probably don't need 9 cu. sugar. Otherwise, definitely a keeper!

Whipped Cream

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2004
This stuff tastes just like they serve it in Europe...creamy and not too sweet. Thanks for the new staple in my dessert collection!

Giant Ding Dong Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2004
Wow! This is incredible. A huge hit with our youth group. Tastes just like the real thing. Quite sweet, though. So...beware. Yummy!

Butternut Squash Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2004
Yum! I definitely cut the cream cheese in 1/2, though. And used 1 pkg frozen squash instead of fresh. All I had on hand. =). Don't overdo the cayenne, either. It adds quite a kick. A VERY impressive starter for an elegant dinner. I served it in clear bowls with parsley sprinkled on top. Beautiful! And tasty. Thanks!

Moroccan Salmon Cakes with Garlic Mayonnaise

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2004
These were BEAUTIFUL! I would definitely add more orange juice next time. Couldn't really taste it. I also served them with a horseradish sauce instead of garlic mayonnaise. I love cumin, and that was the perfect addition! My dinner guests were very impressed. Have already made them twice. Even my mom loved them. Thanks!

Chocolate Peanut Butter Squares

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2004
These were great, and tasted just like Reeses. I used a 9x13 pan, which worked, but there was definitely not enough chocolate. I'll have to buy a jelly roll pan to try this one again. The youth group loved 'em!

Vanilla Brownies

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2004
Very good! Tastes like quite a cakey brownie. I did add choc chips since I was looking for a bar recipe. Turned out awesome! Doesn't need to cook quite as long as recipe calls for, though. Thanks for a keeper!

Lemon Curd Tassies

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2004
This recipe was such a disappointment. I was craving something like this, but alas...it flopped. The curd never thickened...even after filling the tart shells and chilling it. Nice flavor, but sad turnout altogether.

Quick and Easy Spinach Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2005
This was good, however, incomplete in instructions. The bread DEFINITELY needs to rest at least 10-15 min after baking. Otherwise, you're slicing mush. Good without the spinach and just pepperoni and cheese instead.

Chateaubriand

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2005
Absolutely awesome! This is top-dollar restaurant material. The crispy texture is perfect for the yummy, tender center. And I LOVE the fresh ground pepper taste! Perfect on it's own, though would be good with a sauce, I'm sure. Thanks, Rayna!

Easy Black Bottom Cupcakes

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2005
I'm a sucker for recipes with a cake mix. And this couldn't be easier! However, it needed to bake longer than the recipe called for. I also doubled the cream cheese, as other reviews suggested. And added 1 egg. That gave it the cream cheese filling taste I was expecting. Good for a last minute solution, if you have the ingred's on hand.

Pumpkin Fluff Dip

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2005
This is easy and very yummy! I'm renaming it, though, to 'Pumpkin Mousse'. You could easily dress it up for a fancy dinner with small cookies on the side. I also tried spreading it between two vanilla wafers, and refrigerating. Great idea! The dip softened the cookies for a yummy snack! (Think Little Debbie oatmeal cream pies...)

Mocha Chocolate Chip Banana Muffins

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2005
I would've given this a 5 star, but you can't really taste the coffee. I was hoping for a stronger flavor. And I used 3 T. of fresh brewed, strong coffee, which was more than the recipe called for. Still, a yummy muffin. I also sub'ed 1/2 splenda for 1/2 the sugar, and also did 1/2 white and dark choc chips. Very yummy!

Basic Cream Cheese Frosting

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2005
Great tasting frosting, but 4 cu. sugar is waaaaaay to much. I used 2 cu. and that was plenty. Make sure the cream cheese is room temp and beat that first by itself before adding the other indred's. Easy recipe when you're in a hurry!

Fruited Curry Chicken Salad

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2005
Not great. Curry taste overpowered. Skipped the celery and onion (due to taste preferences) and the salad was quite a letdown. Especially for all the work involved. I do like the combination of chicken with fruit, however. And pecans always add a yummy crunch. Worth trying...with modifications.

Venison Schnitzel

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2005
Very tough. I even undercooked the meat and used the tenderest of cuts. The flavor of the crust was good, however. Maybe I'll try again with a different cut of venison. Thanks, Clint!

Microwave Spiced Nuts

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2005
Wow!!! Very easy and a sure-fire pleaser. Works great as a last minute Christmas gift, snack for company, or...for yourself! Great flavor. Work good with other types of nuts, too. I used a couple cans of mixed nuts and they were just as good. Thanks, Jim!

Italian Sausage Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2005
I made this with chicken instead of sausage and my parents raved that it was better than Olive Garden's minestrone! Very easy to throw together. And healthy too! This is the kind of stuff I crave. Thanks, Karen!

Cheese Fritters

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2005
What a great taste! I had some leftover cottage cheese that I wanted to use up and this was the perfect solution! Make sure you drain the fritters well after frying as they do retain the grease. The nutmeg adds an awesome surprise flavor. Light and fluffy and yummy w/raspberry jam!
