Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2010
Amazing pie! Everyone's favorite at every family function. I made it for a vegan friend--I only had to substitute smart balance for the butter and it was just as good. Only thing I changed--I use half Granny Smith apples and half Gala apples.

Pastry for Double Pie-Crust

Perfect crust. I add a little big of sugar (1t-1T) depending on the pie.

Ghirardelli Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake Hearts

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2011
Soooo good! I was shocked to see the 3 star rating. I made this last night for my husband. It was my first time making cheesecake and it was really, really (I mean downright sinfully) good. I'm not even a big raspberry fan and I liked it. Mine turned out a bit thinner than the hearts pictured (I'll add a photo). I only made one change--honey grahams instead of chocolate. I think it was really nice contrast. I will definitely be making this again. I had no issues melting the chips as the recipe specified. I used half chocolate ganache and half raspberry puree for garnish. I had no idea raspberry puree was so easy--and so good! The hearts were tricky: I have four different sizes so I pressed them into the cheesecake and dug out around the hearts. Then I wiggled each heart a little bit to loosen it and used a knife to keep the crust from separating as I plated. I lifted the heart cookie cutter by the edges and the cheesecake *slowly* slid out. --To the commenter with the question about the cream cheese: yup, just 4 oz. It was perfect!

Black Forest Cake II

much too alcoholic (and I'm no prude). The recipe for Jenny's Black Forest Cake is much better.

Best Brownies

Favorite non-mix brownie recipe. I've never made the frosting for them--don't think they need it

Rolled Buttercream Fondant

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2011
VERY tasty, but incredibly hard to work with. I can never seem to get enough powdered sugar added. Mine always ends up kind of gummy. I don't recommend covering a whole cake with it, but it's great for details (I used it on my Yo Gabba Gabba cake for letters, Tutti land, and the blue parts of the logo)

Chocolate Fun Clay

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2011
This is great stuff! I would nix the sprinkles (like the other reviewer, I can't imagine what you'd do with sprinkles. I used white chocolate chips and gel food coloring to make Foofah on my Yo Gabba Gabba cake. Much easier to work with than fondant. Buddy on Cake Boss calls this Modeling Chocolate.

Cindy's Jambalaya

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2014
Did everything exactly as was written (though I may have been a little heavy-handed with the garlic). This was SO GOOD. It will be a new staple in our house for sure. It was flavorful without being too spicey for my 3 and 5 year old. My husband and I topped our servings off with a little extra Cajun seasoning. SO GOOD! I can't wait for lunch tomorrow!
