About this Cook
I've discovered I have a knack for cooking. I love figuring out what things work how and why, and trial and error is the best part of what I do. I'm a college student so I don't have as much time to cook as I'd like to but I love to please my family with a really nice home-cooked meal as often as I can. :)

cornbread, stir frys, egg drop soup, any kind of dessert. XD Mostly I like to try new things.
My favorite family cooking traditions
we always have pot-lucks at every family gathering and everyone bakes one dish of some sort... we have a feast. :D
My cooking triumphs
I made a fantastic yellow cake from scratch with chocolate-cream-cheese frosting and bavarian cream filling... it was probably the best cake I've ever had.
My cooking tragedies
When I was really young... middle school age, I didn't know what "corn syrup" was, and so when a recipe I was trying called for it, and we didn't have any, I used "corn oil" thinking it must be the same thing. XD; Boy... my dad sure gave me the weirdest look when he tried my dessert. xD

Bavarian Cream
This recipe called for ingredients I don't normally have around the house, which would be okay if the taste was worth it. Unfortunately, the description is accurate when it calls the cream "light," since it was nearly tasteless... the gelatin somehow ended up really chunky, and the overall texture of the cream was less than pleasant... also, if you do choose to use this, be sure to stir constantly when boiling the milk, I seared the bottom of my pan by accident. I had to add extra sugar and vanilla to this to make it taste somewhat decent, but decided it would ruin my cake if I were to use it for a filling, and it didn't taste good enough on its own. It could be that I did something wrong, but I reviewed the recipe again after I was finished to make sure I did everything right and... well the result just wasn't very good at all. :(

Chi Tan T'ang (Egg Drop Soup)
This soup is fantastic for any time you crave Egg Drop Soup, but don't have time to go to the store for ingredients. (We don't normally have green onion laying around the house so I don't use it every time) Yes, it is a "salty" soup, but if you like the salty soy sauce flavor, then it's perfect. I add soy sauce to my egg drop soup when I get it at Chinese restaurants all the time, but this has enough for me in the recipe. An extra chicken boullion cube or two makes this recipe divine. Cut back a bit on the vinegar if you don't like the taste, but I like it just like it is. :)
