Italian Dressing Mix

Reviewed: May 16, 2013
Far too salty, and this was after cutting it down to 1 1/2 tablespoons. I can't imagine it full strength. 1/2 -1 tablespoon should be plenty. Otherwise, the herbs were wonderfully balanced.

Stuffed Cabbage

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2012
I was really frustrated by this recipe. I had no idea what this was supposed to turn out like, as I have never had stuffed cabbage before, but my family adores the ingredients in this so we though we'd give it a try. I wasn't certain if I was supposed to cook the ground beef or not because the recipe didn't say, so I erred on the side of caution and prepared this with it cooked. Garlic powder 'to taste' is not enough information for someone cooking this for the first time. I like garlic, so I added it liberally. It was still not enough. Again, not knowing what the flavor was supposed to be in the end, it was frustrating. The picture shows thick hearty sauce over the top, but it made no sense that that consistency could be achieved from just vegetable juice, vinegar, and sugar. But I trusted the recipe and positive reviews and made it how the recipe dictated. In the end, I had a sort of tasteless watery tomato soup with cabbage pods submerged within. It needed salt, badly. I will not be making this again. However, I will be making an extremely loose adaptation with a robust marinara or spaghetti sauce and chunky veggies; and lots of garlic, onion, salt and pepper in the filling.

Southern Pulled Pork

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2010
These were VERY flavorful. The only thing we would change in the recipe is lessen the amount of Cajun seasoning. We had 3 lbs instead of 2 lbs of pork roast, but still approx. halved the amount of Cajun seasoning, anticipating the saltiness. It still was WAY too salty for us. I could only handle having one sandwich, and so could my father (who usually packs food away!). So I will use just 1/4 tablespoon of Cajun seasoning next time. Otherwise, fantastic recipe!

Cranberry Apple Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2005
Make this only to make your kitchen smell good, but don't feed it to anyone. It was so terribly bland and the fruit didn't mesh and taste the way I thought they would. This needed a lot more sugar than the recipe calls for. Also, the inside of the bread fell away from the crust when I checked for doneness. All in all, just awful and a waste of fresh cranberries. I will never make this again.

Diane's German Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2005
This is a fantastic and easy recipe. I made it for my husband's birthday and everyone loved it. I was a bit discoraged with the drippy consistency of the icing once it was thickened because I wanted to ice the sides, but I found spooning icing on the top along the edge made a beautiful drizzle effect along the sides. I will probably make this again!
