Cherry Delight Dessert

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2007
This is such a good, classic dessert! One of the first desserts I made for my husband as newlyweds. I have been making this for years and years, and yes, have substituted blueberry topping with equally good results, particularly good for 4th of July, made one with cherry, and one with blueberry! All gone, no leftovers, ever!! It's a keeper!

Layered Lemon Dessert

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2007
This is a wonderful, delicious dessert. A little like lemon meringue pie but w/o the meringue. Very similar to a pie at a famous pie restaurant called "Lemon Pie Supreme", but I don't think they make it anymore. Too bad, but this is a good substitute.

Squash and Apple Bake

Oh yeah! This is marvelous. A great substitution for sweet potatoes...or in addition to, because what is Thanksgiving without the sweet potatoes?! Delicious with roast pork, or even just pork chops.

Best Ever Sausage with Peppers, Onions, and Beer!

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2007
This was sooo good; I left the sausages whole, and I cut the recipe in half, but it was delicious. I cooked it in my 2 qt. crock pot (since I'd cut it in 1/2) and we ate it on toasted hoagie rolls. My husband loved it and so did the neighbor we gave some too.

Steak Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2007
I used some rib eye steak I had on hand instead of stew meat...Stew meat needs to simmer quite awhile to get tender, maybe that is why it was chewy for some...It turned out very good with the ribeye, top sirloin would work too.

Chicken Breasts with Herb Basting Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2007
I love this recipe. Mainly, because it is similar to those bottled marinades in the store, but w/o all the sodium and extras. Much cheaper too. Delicious.

Pumpkin Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2007
To the previous post, yes, you can use the canned pumpkin, it is just pureed pumpkin, the same (almost)as if you cooked and pureed your own pumpkin. Delicious soup. More people need to try it. Think people's brain's go to "pumpkin pie" and think it will be sweet. Nope, it is a wonderful, savory soup. Good for you too!

Banana Banana Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 13, 2007
This is a great recipe, I went a little crazy and added some chopped walnuts and chopped dried pineapple, a tsp. of cardamom, tsp. of cinnamon and about 1/4 t. of rum extract. This loaf slices so nicely, even while still warm. Yummy. Also added about a tablespoon of 1/2 and 1/2 as the batter was a little dry.

Real Southern Cornbread

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2007
You have to make sure you are using a 12 inch (big) cast iron skillet, or it won't get done. Otherwise, very good and my mom is a "southern belle" and has always cooked our cornbread in a cast iron skillet. Her recipe doesn't call for as much flour or buttermilk, but otherwise this is a good recipe too.

Christian Rice

The recipe says "one package" of the soup mix, which contains 2 packets.."use both" Also, sprinkle the almonds over the rice, as stated at the end of the recipe. Very good by the way!

Hawaiian Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 12, 2007
If you choose to use boneless chicken you will end up with dry chicken; however, if you follow the recipes instructions and use bone in chicken it turns out wonderfully. I use bone in thighs, and add rings of green bell pepper (or red or yellow or orange) and this is a very popular recipe in my household. Have served it to guests many times and all want the recipe. With toasted white rice, it is delish.

Wonderful buns. I make them up and keep on hand in the freezer. So much better and healthier than store bought.

Lemon Blueberry Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 7, 2007
This bread is very tasty, does have more of a pound cake texture, but that's not a bad thing. I wouldn't use the glaze next time, it is nice and tart and sweet without and the glaze made it a little too moist and easy to fall apart. Otherwise, we liked it very much.

Oat Crusted Fish

I pulsed the oatmeal in the food processor to make it a little finer. Nice and crunchy...make sure your oil is nice and hot before dropping in the fish.
